Doon bids adieu to Tejpal
Dehradun, May 7 His body was brought to Dehradun from Delhi in the morning at his Race Course house. After a visit at a gurdwara in Race Course, his body was cremated at Lakhibagh cremation house. As the body reached his house, his three inconsolable sisters wailed and were handled by the relatives present there. Relatives, friends and neighbours all paid their last respects to the pilot. The body, on an open decorated vehicle, was taken to the gurdwara in Race Course for final darshan, according to the Sikh tradition. Former Chief Minister BC Khanduri also reached at the gurdwara to pay his respects to Mamik. A large number of people then marched along the cavalcade that was carrying the body to the cremation ground at Lakdhibagh. On their way, locals gathered outside their houses to see the pilot for the last time. Shopkeepers also closed their shops as a gesture of respect to the departed soul. As parents of the deceased have already expired, an elder sister of Mamik, Charanjit Kaur, lit the funeral pyre and performed the last rites. Charanjits Kaur’s younger sister, Pinki, had also accompanied her to the cremation ground. The youngest of the three sisters, Renu, had to stay at home as her health deteriorated. Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Harbans Kapoor, was also present at the cremation. Mamik has left behind his three unmarried sisters. Mamik’s divorced wife lives in Chandigarh and her two children are also studying there. Bodies of five persons, including Khandu and Mamik, were found four days after it took off from Tawang at 9.50 am last Saturday. The crashed chopper was reportedly sighted at a height of 4,900 metres in Luguthang, near the China border. |

Atmospheric water generators to be set up in 2 blocks
Dehradun, May 7 The atmospheric water generator functioning on refrigeration technology is expected to rescue several villages facing acute water scarcity in the state. The technology, already popular in Andhra Pradesh, is expected to rescue several villages from acute water scarcity in the state. “These blocks have been selected because water cannot be provided through any existing water schemes. The highly energy-efficient machine that traps humidity from the atmosphere converting it into clean water has caught the fancy of the Jal Sansthan, which is studying proposals to implement the scheme. In the first phase, it will be implemented as a pilot project in Pauri and Pithoragarh,” said PC Kimothi, Secretary Appraisal, Jal Sansthan. Water generators will be installed in several areas in Pithoragarh, which are facing acute water shortage. Water in these villages is supplied through tankers, and even mules are used to ferry water to these remote areas. “We have tried to work out several solutions, but none of them proved to be cost-effective. We are increasingly looking at technology to augment our existing water supply,” said Kimothi. What works in favour of the water generator is the quality and purity of water. Besides being cost effective and providing better quality of water, the quantity of water that will be supplied has also impressed the Jal Sansthan authorities. “The atmospheric water generator supplies one litre of water in four minutes that works out to be 350 litres of water in 24 hours fulfilling the needs of 10 persons daily, and is also environment-friendly,” said PC Kimothi, Secretary Appraisal, Jal Sansthan. |

With the state AIEEE counselling to commence soon, the portal promises to be like a beacon to the engineering aspirants of Uttarakhand,” he said. “This website will serve as a repertoire of information about the existing engineering colleges of Uttarakhand, giving expansive reviews about them. The site also provides comprehensive ratings of the existing engineering colleges. The site will act as a platform for the engineering aspirants to interact with the students who are at present studying in an engineering college,” asserted Praveen. However, the students have put in some special efforts to ensure that the website could be easily opened on any browser and is user-friendly. |
