Takht issues directive
: Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh on Saturday said taking a copy of Guru Granth Sahib against Sikh “rehat maryada” (code of conduct) to Dera Baba Wadbhag Singh in Himachal Pradesh around Holi would be treated as a violation of the Takht’s edict and any person found indulging in such an act would have to face a legal action. The jathedar said that a copy of the Guru Granth Sahib should always be taken with full respect in a “palki sahib” and that transporting of the “bir” in a trunk or a suitcase through a car, a bus or a train had been banned. He said the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee had already assigned duties to its staff in this regard and they could check anybody’s luggage on suspicion.

Job fest ends
: Around 287 students who appeared for interviews at the job fest organised by the PHD chamber have been shortlisted for different jobs. Dr Anshu Kataria, convener, Punjab Education Committee, said companies like Synergy, Surya Health Care, India Bulls, Yellow Pages and Sony were present.

Workshop on robotics
: A workshop on “Robotics” was organised at Swami Parmanand Engineering College, Lalru, here on Friday. The workshop was targeted for BTech ECE students of college. Chairman of the institute Inderjeet Bajaj welcomed Gurmeet Sharma and his team of trainers from Eureka Electrosoft. A total of 250 students attended the workshop. Besides, a workshop on HTML was also conducted for CSE students. Principal of Swami Parmanand Engineering College Dr Jyoti Matto and Renu Arora, CA, distributed certificates of participation to the students.

Woman attempts suicide
: Kulwinder Kaur (33) allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison at her in-laws’ residence in Hadiabad last night. The victim was admitted to the Civil Hospital in a serious condition. In his complaint, victim’s brother Taranjit Singh of Jalandhar alleged that his sister was being mentally and physically harassed by her in-laws for dowry during her 14 years of married life.

Health fair: A “Health Mela” was organised by health department, UT, under the National Rural Health Mission at Behlana village here today. The fair was inaugurated by Dr Chander Mohan, director, health and family welfare-cum-mission director, NRHM, Chandigarh Administration. A total of 1,201 patients were examined by various specialists.

500 awarded degrees : As many as 500 graduates and postgraduates were awarded degrees at the annual convocation of Hindu Girls College here on Sunday. Vice-Chancellor of the ICFAI university of Meghalaya YK Bhusan, addressing the convocation, said the youth should not just run after jobs, but also create jobs for others. College principal Nirmal Jhabbal presented the annual report and president of the governing body Ashok Mittal presided over the convocation.

CRPF jawan falls off train, dies: A CRPF jawan died after falling from the Jammu-bound Shalimar Express near Govindsar village in Kathua district on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Satinder Kumar, a jawan of 60 Battalion of the CRPF. He was returning from his home in Meerut to join the duty in Srinagar. The police is investigating the matter. 

PoK-bound Poonch resident held: The Army on Saturday evening nabbed a Poonch resident from the Line of Control while he was trying to cross over to Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir from Nakkargate area in Poonch sector. Identified as Abdul Hamid (30), a resident of Mendhar (Poonch district), he was arrested at around 7.25 pm, an Army spokesperson said. He said the Army was questioning Abdul before handing him over to the police. 

Probe campus promotions: NSF: Continuing their protest against the university authorities, the activists of National Secular Forum (NSF) on Sunday held a protest on the University of Jammu campus and demanded a CBI probe into the allegedly out-of-turn promotions.

Another militant’s body recovered
: The police on Sunday recovered the body of another militant who was killed in an encounter with the security forces in Muslim Peer area of Sopore on Saturday, thus taking the number of the killed militants to two. “The body of one more militant, identified as Waseem Ahmad Ganai, a resident of Shiekh Sahab Mohalla, Chinkipora, Sopore, was recovered from the encounter site at Muslim Peer, Sopore,” a police spokesman said. “A small quantity of arms and ammunition was also recovered from the possession of the deceased,” he said.
