Minor domestic helps ‘brutally assaulted’
Panchkula, February 25
Two girls, aged six and seven, employed as domestic help in a house here, were brutally assaulted by their employers. The incident came to light when one of the girls, after allegedly being hit by an iron rod, managed to escape to a neighbour’s house and narrated her plight and that of a co-worker.

Complaint against GMCH former principal quashed
Chandigarh, February 25
Nearly three years after former Director-cum-Principal of Sector 32 Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Dr Hari Mohan Swami and his wife Dr Madhu Swami were summoned by a city court in a Scheduled Caste atrocities case, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has quashed the complaint against them. All subsequent proceedings against the two also stand quashed.

The sheep that were killed by a wild animal at Ghel village near Ambala city on Friday Wild animal kills 20 sheep
Ambala February 25
Over 20 sheep in Ghel village, near Ambala City, were apparently killed by a leopard in the wee hours today. Shepherd Darshan Singh had kept around 60 sheep in a temporary enclosure, along with other livestock, near his house.

Two thieves nabbed

The Pinjore police has claimed to have recovered two thieves today. Sources revealed that the accused, Rikki Kumar and Anil Kumar, were arrested near Pinjore bus stop.

Insurance firm told to pay Rs 4.69 lakh
Chandigarh, February 25
The UT State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission has directed the United India Insurance to pay Rs 4.69 lakh to a city resident instead of Rs 2.69 lakh announced earlier by the Consumer District Forum in June 2010 for the total loss of a car in an accident. The commission has also held that the forum had erred in its judgement.

HC for free air travel to freedom fighters

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to consider the case of surviving freedom fighters and their spouses for free air travel in government airlines.

Taxi driver rescued, four arrested
Chandigarh, February 25
Within 12 hours of a taxi driver being kidnapped by assailants in Kajheri over a financial dispute, the police arrested all the four accused and rescued the taxi driver today. The four had abducted him for ransom and owing to enmity with him. The accused have been identified as Jatinder, a resident of Sahi Majra village, Mohali, Pritpal Singh, a resident of Barnala, Gurvinder Singh, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib and Ajay Kumar.
