Elected to economic body@@Bathinda: Dr DK Madaan, Principal, Punjabi University Campus, Maur (Bathinda), has been elected as an executive member from Punjab of the Indian Economic Association (IEA) in the 93rd Annual Economic Conference held at Panjab University, Chandigarh from December 27-29, 2010. The IEA, established in 1917, is a registered body of eminent economists with over 3500 individual and institutional members. --- TNS@@Gang of burglars busted@@BATHINDA: Bathinda SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill on Monday claimed to have busted a gang of burglars, who used to operate during the day in the city. The SSP said police nabbed four members of the gang and recovered stolen articles worth Rs 11 lakh from their possession. He added that they belonged to Sirsa. Acting upon a tip-off, Bathinda police with the help of Haryana police nabbed them from Ellanabad district in Haryana. During interrogation, it was also revealed that one of them was a student and was involved in the crime just to earn easy money to lead a lavish life. The SSP informed that investigation was on and the properties recovered would be handed over to the owners within three days. — TNS@@IDA meeting@@BATHINDA: The annual election meeting of IDA Bathinda was held on Sunday at the Dunes Club. Secretary of the IDA Bathinda, Dr BD Puri informed that for the year 2011, Dr Amnish Singh had been elected the president and Dr Jatinder Singh as the treasurer. Dental surgeons R Gopal, Nidhi Verma, Anu Shahi Puri, Parminder Kaur, Neena Gupta and Aman were present. The IDA also plans to launch 'Dentonic', a quarterly newsletter giving details about dental activities. --- TNS

Man succumbs to injuries
: Chana Ram (72) of Marnaian succumbed to his injuries at the Civil Hospital last evening. He was seriously wounded when some unknown vehicle hit him while he was going on foot near Tanuli bridge on the night of January 1. The Mehtiana police has registered a case under Sections 304 A, 427 and 279 of the IPC.

J&K children visit Jalandhar
: An educational-cum-motivational tour of children from remote villages of Akhnoor from Jammu and Kashmir visited Amritsar, Jalandhar and Chandigarh. The tour was organised by Crossed Swords Division of Northern Command. During their visit, the children went to Wagah Border, Jallianwala Bagh and Golden Temple in Amritsar. They visited Wonderland in Jalandhar and Science City in Kapurthala, near Jalandhar. 

Advocate’s death mourned: City lawyers mourned the death of advocate SK Sidana in a condolence meeting of the District Bar Association (DBA) held here on Monday. Advocate Sidana passed away on January 1.

Arrears for staff
: The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam has decided to pay the third installment of 30 per cent arrears of the revised pay scale to its eligible employees in January following the instructions of the state government. About 1,200 employees of the nigam will be benefited. Stating this here on Monday, a spokesman for the nigam said the nigam had already paid 70 per cent of the arrears to the employees. The nigam had also decided to enhance the amount of gift from Rs 2,000 to Rs 7,500 being given to its employees at the time of their retirement. He said the gifts were being given to all employees, including peon, at the time of their retirement.

Fire brigade drivers’ test: The driving proficiency test for the posts of fire brigade driver for the Urban Local Bodies Department, Haryana, will be conducted at the district headquarters in the Haryana Roadways Depots, Ambala, Sonepat (Murthal Driving Training School), Rohtak, Gurgaon, Hisar and Bhiwani from January 20 onwards. The eligible candidates have been advised to report for the test as per the schedule mentioned in their call letters.
