Chandigarh, December 5
The latest reports of the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) and the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) reaffirm the dominance of The Tribune as the Number 1 English daily of the region. It is not only the most read newspaper in the region but also the largest circulated. The IRS 2010 Q3 reports show that The Tribune with a readership of 5.94 lakh is among the top 10 English dailies in the country. It is among the few English dailies in the country that has shown a growth in readership during the period.

The IRS survey reveals that The Tribune is the most read newspaper in the region comprising the states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Chandigarh and is way ahead of both Hindustan Times and The Times of India. The Tribune’s readership (excluding the NCR towns of Gurgaon and Faridabad) is an impressive 5.76 lakh in the three states and Chandigarh as compared to that of 3.22 lakh of Hindustan Times and 1.66 lakh of The Times of India. The Tribune’s readership is more than the combined readership of both the Hindustan Times and The Times of India.

In Punjab, the IRS survey puts The Tribune readership at 3.06 lakh as compared to the Hindustan Times figure of 1.41 lakh and The Times of India count of 42,000. In Haryana (excluding the NCR towns of Faridadad and Gurgaon), the IRS pegs The Tribune readership at 1.33 lakh, which is way ahead of Hindustan Times (81,000) and The Times of India (86,000). In Himachal Pradesh, The Tribune’s dominance remains unchallenged. The IRS declares The Tribune’s readership in the state at 48,000 as compared to that of Hindustan Times at 15,000 and The Times of India’s at 14,000. Even in Chandigarh, The Tribune is the undisputed leader.

Even the latest ABC figures for the period January-June 2010 establish The Tribune’s dominance in the region. Based on net paid circulation, the ABC figures put The Tribune circulation in the region comprising Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh and Haryana (excluding the NCR towns of Gurgaon and Faridabad) at 2,86,874 copies, which is more than the circulation figures of Hindustan Times (1,19,462 copies) and The Times of India (1,03,531 copies) put together. Even if the two NCR cities of Gurgaon and Faridabad are added, The Tribune’s circulation is still more than that of Hindustan Times and The Times of India.

The ABC January-June 2010 figures also demonstrate The Tribune’s dominance in each of the states of the region and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. In Punjab, The Tribune remains way ahead of other publications with a circulation of 1,56,166 copies as compared to 52,253 copies of Hindustan Times and 26,052 copies of The Times of India. In Haryana (excluding the NCR towns of Gurgaon and Faridabad), The Tribune’s circulation is pegged at 51,369 copies, again ahead of Hindustan Times (25,289 copies) and Times of India (38,489 copies). In Himachal, the ABC report put The Tribune’s circulation at 37,534 copies, streets ahead of Hindustan Times (5,357 copies) and The Times of India

(6,620 copies). Even in Chandigarh, The Tribune leads the English dailies in the number of copies sold.
