Delhi denies visa to Musharraf
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, December 1
Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has been denied visa by India to attend a seminar here later this week.

One of the reasons being advanced by the Indian Government is that Musharraf was the main architect of the 1999 Kargil conflict. This is despite the fact that he had visited India last year for a media event although he was not in power at that time.

Official sources said the decision to deny him the visa was taken after the Home Ministry expressed reservations over the visit due to his recent anti-India utterances. In a recent interview, he had alleged the involvement of India and Afghanistan in creating unrest in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, claiming that the Pakistani authorities had evidence in this regard.

New Delhi also did not want a wrong message to go to the civilian government in Pakistan that it was allowing forces opposed to it to assemble on the Indian soil.
