Seminar on teacher edu:

national seminar was organised by Maharishi Dayanand College of Education here. More than 80 delegates from different institutes discussed quality perspectives in curriculum development of teacher education. The seminar was sponsored by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. The guests were welcomed by Dr RP Asija, principal of the host college. On the occasion, role of information and communication technology (ICT) in making teaching more effective was also discussed.

Mass marriages: The Samajik Chetna Manch, Batala, on Sunday arranged marriages of 11 poor girls at Ghuman. Manch president PC Pyasa said they would arrange marriages of another 22 needy girls soon at Shri Hargobind Pur. The manch gifted 21 utensils, one double bed and one trunk to each couple on this occasion. — OC Law Day

Punjab Pavilion 2nd: Punjab Pavilion has been adjudged Second for Excellence in Display at the 30th India International Trade Fair-2010. It received a silver medal for this achievement. The pavilion was adjudged on the basis of creative display based on the theme, “Clean and Energy-Efficient Technology Products & Services”. The award was received by Dr SS Channy, Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce, on behalf of the government.

Physics seminar
: The Kirpal Sagar Academy, near Rahon, here in the district would host a national seminar-cum-workshop on “Improving education in physics and related sciences”, organised by the Regional Council (Punjab and Jammu-Kashmir) of the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT), in January next year. Giving details, Dr Karamjit Singh, Chairman , Kirpal Sagar Academy, and Rajesh Chandel, Vice-President of the Regional Council, while presiding over a meeting of the IAPT here on Sunday said the workshop would dwell on different sub-themes like “Role of information technology for physics”, “Modern teaching aids in entertainment and enlightenment in physics” and “Innovative laboratory experiments”.

National seminar: The BKM College of Education, Balachaur, organised a national-level seminar on “Evolving integrated approach for value education in India” on Sunday. Prof R.S. Yadav of the Department of Education, Kurukshetra University, Dr G.S. Chandel of Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Ludhiana, Prof T.R. Sharma, Director, Him Academy, Himachal Pardesh, S.K. Sharma, Asha Sharma, Chairman and secretary of the BKM College of Education, lighted the lamp to inaugurate the seminar. Delegates from different universities and colleges read their papers.

Nawanshahr: The District Legal Services Authority organised a seminar on “Free legal service aids” at the Rayat College of Law, Rail Mazra, to mark National Law Day on Friday. District and Sessions Judge G.S. Sra presided over the function and made the students and staff of various colleges of the Rayat and Bahra Group aware of the need and importance of various schemes under the Free Legal Services for ensuring access of the deprived section of the society to justice. Poonam Ratti, CJM-cum-secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Rajinder Singh, secretary, District Bar Association, S.C. Bedi, Campus Director, Dr Monika Sharma, Principal, B.S Balli, and the DPRO also spoke.

Integrated sports academy:
The Dera Sacha Sauda has decided to set up an integrated sports academy in the recently raised double-storeyed senior secondary boys’ school at village Gurusar Modian near here. While confirming it, Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh said the national coaches would be made available to train the students in athletics, basketball, handball and lawn tennis. Construction of multidimensional playground has already been started.
