Tata offers to add free fire safety device in 70k Nanos

New Delhi, November 10
Tata Motors today said it would ask customers to bring back their cars to add safety devices free of cost after some brand new Nanos caught fire. Insisting that it was not a “recall”, Tata said the addition of safety devices was optional. Around 70,000 Nanos are currently on the roads.

“We would be informing the customers that these are the additional protection we are willing to provide. We are quite convinced that Nano is safe, based on our investigations. However, we feel that probably there may be some extraneous circumstances where people may want additional protection,” Tata Motors Managing Director (India Operations) PM Telang told PTI.

Asked if the cars were being recalled because of the concern about the safety of vehicles, Telang said: “Just to clarify that this is not a recall... It is just to make the Nano more robust.” The safety move, incidentally, made public within days of the world’s cheapest car, priced at USD 2,500, was showcased to the US President Barack Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama. — PTI

Gold plated Nano!

Watch and jewellery maker Titan has decided to gold plate one Nano, the wonder car from Tata, as part of its campaign to celebrate 5,000 years of Indian jewellery. Titan threw a challenge to its designers to gold clad Nano with traditional jewellery designs as the core concept. Unveiling the three shortlisted designs, Titan said it would ask the public to vote for the best design.
