2G probe: SC asks why Raja is still 
a minister

The Supreme Court today slammed the UPA government for letting Telecom Minister A Raja continue in office despite the serious allegation of a Rs 70,000 crore scam in the allocation of 2G Spectrum in 2008.

If it is necessary, I can (quit) but where is the necessity… I have been told by the Department of Telecom that the hearing has been postponed for another date, so I would not like to make any comment.

In a huge relief to Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, Justice VG Sabhahit of the Karnataka High Court today upheld the disqualification of 11 rebel party MLAs by Assembly Speaker KG Bopaiah on October 11.

Chinese Premier to visit in Dec
October 29
PM Manmohan Singh with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in Hanoi, on Friday.
Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao would be visiting India, possibly in the third week of December to resolve outstanding issues that are bedevilling the relationship between the two countries. Announcing this during the meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Chinese premier hoped that both sides will be able to “reach a consensus on some major aspects so as to lay a foundation for the visit”.

India and South Korea have struck a deal to finalise an agreement on civil uses of nuclear energy. This is a major success for India during the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Asia tour as India has also put on “fast track” a similar agreement with Japan. National Security Adviser Shiv Shankar Menon said here today that India and Korea have finalised the agreement on cooperation in civil uses of nuclear energy.
