Speaking his mind for the first time on political crisis emerging out of the Central debt-waiver issue, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today came out firmly supporting his son and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal.

London’s Punjabi community is in a state of shock after the sensational opening of a trial in which a 32-year-old man is accused of orchestrating the killing of his 28-year-old wife and the mother of their two children. Geeta Aulakh, whose family originate from Goraya near Jalandhar, had her right hand cut off and died from wounds to her arm and head only yards away from where her two young sons were being cared for by a childminder.

Amritsar dropped from Obama’s itinerary
New Delhi/Amritsar, October 19
The Golden temple in Amritsar has been dropped from the itinerary of US President Barack Obama, who is visiting India in early November, apparently in view of a row over the required headwear for entering the shrine. According to informed sources here, though the American leader’s programme in India was still being finalised, he was unlikely to visit Amrtisar.
