‘Ransom paid’, kidnapped boy freed

Almost 18 hours after he was kidnapped yesterday, the one-and-a-half- year-old child of a local businessman was released by his abductors this afternoon after reportedly receiving Rs 20 lakh as ransom. However, the police as well as the boy’s family members, who are relatives of Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources Pawan Bansal, denied they had paid any ransom money for the child’s release.

CHB pulls out of Slum Rehabilitation Scheme

Cops fail to crack abduction cases

Still without any clue in three kidnapping incidents that occurred in the town during the past two years, cracking such cases appears to have become the Achilles’ heel of the local police.

Traffic goes haywire along VIP’s route

Motorists stranded at the Tribune roundabout in Chandigarh on Wednesday Mismanagement of traffic regulations came to the fore again during peak traffic hours along President Pratibha Patil’s route from Punjab Raj Bhavan to the Chandigarh airport today. Commuters using the Madhya Marg, from transport lights to the Tribune roundabout, and the Chandigarh-Amabala road up to the airport traffic lights remained stranded when the President’s cavalcade passed through these busy roads.

The centuries old drama staged in many formats of theatre was produced and presented by Mohan Swaroop Bhatia of Swastic Theatre Ensemble from Mathura under the direction of Sundeepan Vimal Gaud.

Tribune ex-manager dead

Mr Satish Kumar Chopra, ex-deputy manager (accounts) expired here yesterday after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. He was cremated at the Sector 25 crematorium yesterday evening which was largely attended by his former colleages and relatives.

Man booked for abduction

The police has booked a man for allegedly abducting a 23-year-old widow and her minor daughter.
The police registered a case of abduction against Salim, whose address was not confirmed, on the directions of the court yesterday. The police said both the accused and the victim were vagabonds.

Hisar man held for stealing vehicles

The police has arrested a resident of Hisar for allegedly stealing two vehicles from the city.
Inspector Charanjit Singh Virk, in charge of the crime branch, Chandigarh Police, said the accused, identified as 20-year-old Robin Saini, was brought on production warrants from Hisar.
