Wary Cong turns to philosophy
Vibha Sharma/Tribune News Service

New Delhi, September 30
An extremely guarded Congress evoked Lord Rama and took the help of philosophy to put across its point that the Ayodhya verdict should not be perceived as a victory or defeat for any community and that none should indulge in activity that could affect peace and harmony.

Responding to reports of bursting of crackers by some religious groups after the judgement, party general secretary Janardan Dwivedi quoted a Sanskrit shloka to explain how Lord Ram maintained composure under all conditions- good and bad.

“Ram bhakts should learn from Lord Rama who was neither jubilant at the time of his coronation, nor remorseful when sent to exile ,” Dwivedi said.

Striking a philosophical note, he said there were moments when one's wisdom, tolerance and reasoning were put to test.

“The Congress has always held that the dispute should either be resolved through talks or the verdict of the court be accepted. Now, the court has given its verdict. We should welcome the judgement. If any person or organisation has any reservations, the doors of the Supreme Court are open.

“Everyone should respect the verdict and nothing should be done to disturb peace and harmony,” he emphasised.
