A new life begins for Leh survivor in Chandigarh
Archit Watts writes from Choglamsar

September 9
The worries of Stanzin Dolma are about to end as her nine-year-old daughter Skalzang Angmo is finally going to join the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Sector 25, Chandigarh, tomorrow.

The little girl will go with Leh JNV principal Manoj Kumar Sharma to Chandigarh tomorrow. “I will be accompanying Skalzang by air to Delhi and then go by road to Chandigarh as there is no direct flight for Chandigarh from Leh,” Sharma said.

The Tribune had highlighted the family’s plight after Stanzin’s elder daughter died in the cloudburst. Stanzin, currently living in the Solar Colony Relief Camp here, said: “I got a phone call from the Leh JNV’s principal to send my daughter to the airport on September 10.”

“I am thankful to all those who helped me when I lost my elder daughter and had no money,” Stanzin said. “The session for Class VI has already started in Chandigarh and Skalzang will be part of it from tomorrow,” added Stanzin, tears rolling down her cheeks, as she remembered her elder daughter, a student of Class VIII in JNV, Chandigarh, who was in Choglamsar as her school had vacations on August 6.
