Gurdwara priest stuck atop Nishan Sahib, rescued
Ludhiana, September 1
A 75-year-old priest of a gurdwara, who kept hanging between life and death at a height of 60 ft for nearly five hours after the pulley that elevated the priest atop the Nishan Sahib stuck midway, was rescued late in the evening.

BAL BHARTI: Keeping up with the festive spirit, students of Bal Bharati Public School celebrated Janamashtmi on school premises. A special assembly was held in the school. The stage was decorated with ‘matkas’ and scenes from Lord Krishna's life took everyone to serene and pious lanes of Vrindavan.

Section officer nabbed for graft

The Vigilance Bureau nabbed a section officer (SO) of the education department red-handed for accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from mini-secretariat here today.The accused has been identified as Sham Sunder. According to VB officials, the accused was harassing a teacher demanded a bribe for releasing his pending payment.

In the wake of the first semester examinations for Classes X and XII to be conducted by the Punjab School Education Board from September 6, District Magistrate Rahul Tiwari has imposed a ban on assembly of five or more persons around the examination centres in the entire district (except for areas under Ludhiana Police Commissionerate).

Hotels, dhabas under watch
Ludhiana, September 1
District Magistrate Rahul Tiwari said all the hotel and dhaba owners should keep a visitor’s register and install CCTV cameras. Detail of every visitor should be noted in the register, he said. The orders were issued keeping in view the increasing number of cases of thefts on highways. Such incidents are reported mainly from hotels and dhabas situated on highways. — TNS
