Ranjit section lift Sadhbavana Run Cup

A Sadbhavana Run was organised at the Rashtriya Indian Miltary College (RIMC) on the occasion of the 63rd Independence Day. The event took off with the address and flag-hoisting ceremony by Commandant Col Pankaj Kumaria. The commandant enlightened the cadets by glorifying the traditions of the RIMC.

The 63rd anniversary of Independence Day was celebrated on the Parade Ground here yesterday. Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank unfurled the Tricolour and extended good wishes to all people of the state. A large number of people were present on the occasion where an impressive parade was also carried out by policemen. In his address, the Chief Minister made several announcements and declarations. He announced to provide 10 per cent horizontal reservation in state government services to the Uttarakhand statehood activists and a special monthly pension of Rs 10,000 to the statehood activists who had been injured during the Uttarakhand statehood movement.
A women’s university in collaboration with the Banasthali Vidyapeeth to be set up
  • The number of farmers to be raised to 50,000 for getting incentive for cultivation of medicinal plants
  • Siddhowala Polytechnic to be developed as the first Women Technical College

He also announced the establishment of a women university in the state in collaboration with the Banasthali Vidyapeeth, selection of one local body each as an ideal local body in every district, increasing the number of farmers to 50,000 under incentive to cultivation of medicinal plants and providing them with 50 per cent grant, and to develop Siddhowala Polytechnic as first Women Technical College.

Nishank said Uttarakhand was the forehead of the nation and if people wanted to strengthen the country, they had to strengthen this forehead, the crown of the nation. “We have no existence without this nation, so we all will have to work for the keeping the unity and integrity of India intact,” he added.

He pointed out that the per capita income of the state had increased from Rs 15,000 to Rs 42,000. The 13th Finance Commission of India has sanctioned an additional grant of Rs 1000 crore in addition to the regular budget of the state, because the commission was convinced that the state was utilising its fund properly and adequately, Nishank added.

It was for the first time that the state government had offered 21,000 vacancies to the unemployed youth of the state. These vacancies include 12,000 vacancies for group C, 4,000 for teachers, and 490 vacancies for instructors in ITIs.

As many as 4,000 vacancies of policemen would also be filled through the unemployed youth of the state in lieu of the policemen coming from UP. The state government has made registration in the employment offices of the state for group C vacancies compulsory, the Chief Minister said.

Praising the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay 108 Ambulance service, he said the service had set a world record, as 1,640 babies took birth in the moving ambulances. It had saved the lives of 1,25,000 people in a short span of two years.

Uttarakhand is being developed as an educational hub and it is the first state in the country to have many international institutions, such as the IIT, IIM, AIMS, NIT, Ayurved University, Petroleum University, Law University, and Sanskrit University. The Muslim Wakf Board and Muslim Education Board for the welfare of the minorities have also been established in the state. Numerous schemes have been launched for the welfare of the SCs and STs of the state.

The Chief Minister later met freedom fighters, their dependents, statehood activists, and families of martyrs who were present on the occasion.

Speaker of the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha Harbans Kapoor, former Chief Minister ND Tiwari, Lokayukt Justice MM Ghildiyal, Mayor of the DMC Vinod Chamoli, Chief Secretary NS Napalchyal, DGP JS Pande, Additional Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar, Principal Secretary to CM DK Kotia along with other senior officers were present.

Earlier, the Chief Minister unfurled the Tricolour at his official residence and at the state BJP office where state office-bearers of the party were present.

Lokayukt Justice MM Ghildiyal unfurled the Tricolour at the Lokayukt office to mark the 63rd Independence Day yesterday. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “We got the Independence after a long and tireless struggle by our freedom fighters who never hesitated to sacrifice their lives for the sake of the nation. So, we all should resolve to work with dedication and honesty in order to ensure our contribution to the progress and development of the nation”.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary NS Napalchyal unfurled the Tricolour at the Secretariat.

He said it was the duty of all officials to extend the benefits of the governmental schemes to each and every person of the state, and so we all should ensure that the governmental schemes were run smoothly and the fund was properly utilised for the betterment of public. All departments should realise their duties to get the Vision-2020 realised, he added.

Directorate of Information and Public Relations celebrates I-Day

Director (Information) Akshat Gupta unfurled the national flag at the Directorate of Information and Public Relations situated on the EC Road. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “We all should work with dedication and honesty to ensure that the state made progress at a faster pace”. All senior officials of the Directorate were present on the occasion.

ICFAI University

Amid patriotic fervour, the flag-hoisting ceremony was carried out by Dr Shrivastava, Vice-Chancellor of ICFAI University, on its campus.

A cultural programme was also organised at the university auditorium by the faculty. The programme began with a the Lord Shiva prayer followed by a colourful folk dance performance by teachers. This was followed by patriotic songs by students.

A small skit on the true meaning of independence enacted by students brought smiles and tears alike on the faces of the audience.

The Heritage School

The Independence Day celebrations were organised at The Heritage School where president of school Avdesh Chaudhary unfurled the national flag. Principal, teachers, staff and students of the school paid homage to the martyrs who gave us the air of freedom. This was followed by a variety of cultural programmes.

Bubbling students presented colourful dances of the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa and the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand depicting unity in diversity.

Students expressed their views on the burning issues of Kashmir and Dantewada. Faculty members and president of the school addressed the students later. The programme came to an end with the distribution of sweets.

Guru Nanak College

Sri Guru Nanak Public Inter College celebrated the 63rd anniversary of the Independence Day on its campus with fervour. NCC cadets gave a salute to the national flag. School students held a cultural programme. Garhwali and Kumaoni dances were presented while patriotic songs like Vande Matram were sung.

Jasbir Marwha, president of the Management Committee, was the chief guest.

Senior lecturer PS Kakar, Rakhi Bisht (assistant teacher) addressed the students.

Himalayan Public School

The Independence Day was celebrated with full zest and gaiety in the The Himalayan Public School here on Sunday.

The programme started with flag-hoisting ceremony conducted by chief guest Brig KG Behl (retd). This was followed by the National Anthem and felicitation of the chief guest and others.After the Indian pledge by the school captain, English speech, Hindi poem, and patriotic enactment were the attractions of the day.

The Doon Vihar Residents Welfare Association celebrated the 63rd Independence Day. Mayor Vinod Chamoli hoisted the national flag on the occasion. A plantation programme was also organised in the area.

Citizens of Mussoorie celebrated the Independence Day with fervour here on Sunday. The dignitaries and people converged at the Gandhi Chowk. School students marched along chanting “Bharat Mata ki jai”.

Chief guest on the occasion was MLA Jot Singh Gunsola along with Mussoorie SDM Manoj Kumar and other dignitaries hoisted the flag among cheers and thunderous applause.

This was the first occasion when some English-medium schools sent their students for the Independence Day celebrations. Following that, the National Anthem was sung with school children joining in the chorus. Girls from Mussoorie International School presented patriotic songs on the occasion. A patriotic song was also presented IPTA Mussoorie.

Satish, Manish and group too enlivened the audience by their patriotic songs.

Five eminent personalities of the town Thomas Francis, Dr NK Uniyal, Nanda, former Prof Ganesh Saili, journalist Harbhajan Singh, were presented with citations and a shawl for excellent performance in their chosen field of work.

The proceedings were coordinated by Madan Mohan Sharma. Also present were Virendar Rana, Man Mohan Singh Mall, Anuj Tayal, Viru Rawat, Nand Lal, Manmohan Singh, Bhagwati Saklani, Bhagwan Singh Dhanai, Saroj Baudhiyal, Saroj Arya, Bharosi Rawat, Satish Daundiyal, Rafiq Ahmed and Rajkumar.

The Press Club of Mussoorie also celebrated the Independence Day by hoisting the flag at its premises. This year a 10-year-old student Gorky was given the rare opportunity to hoist the national flag by the club members along with President Bijendar Panwar.

BSP leader Sunil Sonkar also hoisted the flag at Kurli Bazar along with the hotel staff in the area. The Hotel Park Plaza GM also offered flowers on the portrait of the freedom fighters and eminent leaders of the country. A kite-flying competition and cultural programmes were also held. The traders association also organised cultural competition at in which various schools took part.

Sanatan Dharam Inter College, Mussoorie Girls Inter College, Secondary Government Girls and Boys’ School, Kulri and Library, Divya Bharti Public School, Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Saraswati Shishu Mandir etc participated in the competition. The national flag was hoisted at the Mission Compound in Balowganj where special prayers were held on the occasion. Rev PJ George blessed all on the occasion and prayed for national unity and peace in the world. Chief guest on the occasion Mussoorie Congress Minority Cell in charge DX Johny and HelpAge India Dehradun Manager Pankaj Sinha greeted all and said the day was to remember the martyrs who had sacrificed for our freedom.

Police, citizens show disrespect to Tricolour

On the hindsight amidst the Independence Day celebrations, plastic national flags distributed by minors in the town were seen lying abandoned on the road. Even a few policemen riding on their motorcycles did not consider picking up the national flag from the road.

Many tourists and locals also whizzed past caring little for the national flag lying in the dust.

At the Independence Day celebrations, RS Sharma, CMD, ONGC, unfurled the national flag at Dr BR Ambedkar Stadium, Dehradun, amid a huge round of applause by a large gathering of ONGC staff and their families.

Sharma greeted the gathering of former and serving staff, their families, invited guests and mediapersons on the occasion of Independence Day. He congratulated the four employees of ONGC Fire Services for bagging the prestigious President’s Fire Service Medal for meritorious service. The recipients of the medals are SR Subramaniam, Manager (Fire Services), RR Brahmbhatt, Fire Officer, G Mathew, Senior ASI (Fire), and PC Sharma, Assistant Chief Inspector (Fire).

The parade was led by Nand Kishore and the CMD took the salute from the marching contingents. Dressed in attractive attires, the contingents drawn from the CISF, ONGC Security, Fire Services, ONGC GT Batch, Uttarakhand Bhutpurva Sainik Kalyan Nigam, ONGC Employees and the Kendriya Vidyalaya and BS Negi Mahila Pravidhik Prashikshan Sansthan presented a brilliant march past. The IMA band lent musical support to the parade.

The CMD presented various awards to contingents for the best turnout, etc. The band of the Sikh Regiment also presented a spectacular show.

The Independence Day celebrations concluded with a colourful cultural programme. There was a field dance by children of Shishu Vihar, group dance by students of BS Negi MPPS and a bhangra by students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, ONGC. There was also a field dance by a team of ONGC Kendriya Vidyalaya students, Women’s Development Forum and the ONGC Officers Mahila Samiti.

A running commentary of the celebrations was given by Dinesh Chandra Thapliyal, Padmaja Sawant and Shyamali Saha.

Among the Directors of the company present were AK Hazarika, Director (Onshore), DK Pande, Director (Exploration), UN Bose, Director (T&FS), DK Sarraf, Director (Finance), and Sudhir Vasudeva, Director (Offshore). Swadeep Singh, Chief Vigilance Officer, ONGC, SN Singh, Executive Director (Security), Sundar Lal, Executive Director-Chief (Employee Relations) and Tauqir Hussain, Executive Director-Chief (HRD) were also present.

Slum kids celebrate I-Day

On the 63rd Independence Day, children from slum colonies presented a colourful programme under the auspices of NGO Ankit, which was attended by Mayor Vinod Chamoli as chief guest.

Thirtytwo children who presented dance on different patriotic songs were distributed school uniforms by Chamoli, as admission in various primary schools had been facilitated for them by the NGO in July this year.

Chamoli appreciated the talent of children and the spirit of the NGO which had been providing education and vocational training to these children. Chamoli extended help in the form of warm clothes for winter to these children.

ONGC opens computer centre to empower youth

The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation’s (ONGC) Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives got an impetus with ONGC CMD RS Sharma inaugurating a computer education centre, e-Swavalamban, at Dehradun on the occasion of ONGC foundation day. The centre, set up in association with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Gandhi Institute of Computer Education and Information Technology, will benefit people belonging to the lower income section.

The ONGC is setting up five centres at various locations it is situated. Dehradun is the second centre that has been inaugurated after Sivasagar was opened earlier this year. Three other centres will be set up at Mehsana, Rajamundry and Karaikal. This initiative aims at imparting free computer and IT professional education to empower youths and providing them with employment opportunities.

These institutes will run four modules with 120 students in a batch and be of three months duration. When all five centres are operational, the ONGC’s effort will benefit 2,400 people every year.

These institutes, apart from providing computer education, will also help in the overall personality development of the students. The selection of the students for this programme will be done through screening test and priority will be given to the economic background of the candidate. The centre will also help secure placements for the students.

The CMD of the organisation lauded this endeavour and said, “The ONGC will extend all possible support for this noble cause. I wish all the best to the people associated with this initiative”.

The company through its Corporate Citizenship Policy promotes education, healthcare and entrepreneurship in the community and supports water management and disaster relief in the country and has extended financial support to several such programmes.

In conformity with this policy, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between the ONGC and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan for providing free entrepreneurship/job-oriented computer education to candidates belonging to the lower income group.

RIMC cadets with the trophy organised to mark the Independence Day in Dehradun on Sunday.

A Sadbhavana Run was organised at the Rashtriya Indian Miltary College (RIMC) on the occasion of the 63rd Independence Day. The event took off with the address and flag-hoisting ceremony by Commandant Col Pankaj Kumaria. The commandant enlightened the cadets by glorifying the traditions of the RIMC.

He also motivated the cadets to continue in the same spirit in the near future of this highly esteemed institution. The cadets also took part in the inter-section X-Country Competition 2010 and Ranjit section bagged the cup followed by Chandragupta section, Pratap and then by Shivaji section. The individual prizes were bagged by the following cadets.

On this occasion the freshers joining the Rimco fraternity also planted saplings in the college campus thus taking vital footsteps in the conservation of the environment.

Cops win medals in kickboxing c’hip

Haridwar, August 16
Constables Bhoopendra and Mukesh Nainwal have won silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the 16th Kick Boxing Championship which concluded in Kolkata recently.

Achievement of both Bhoopendra and Mukesh seem more commendable as the kickboxing was quite a new sport for the state and it is certainly not a traditional game played in India.

The medal winners termed their success to hard work and the hard training schedule that made them focus much better.

Both of them also thanked the state police for providing them with best of the facilities to pursue the game alongside the police duty.

Lauding the efforts pitched in by the two cops chief of Haridwar Police Sanjay Gunjiyal said the medals have made the state police and the proud.

He assured full cooperation to the medal winners from the district police and hoped that they will continue to perform well bringing gold next time.

Sports day held at district jail on I-Day

Sports activities and other competitions were organised on the 63rd anniversary of the Independence Day at the Dehradun district jail.

In the volleyball event, Seva Singh led team got the better of the team captained by Suresh. Singh’s squad comprised Santosh, Sudhir, Jagat Singh, Janka, Narayan Dutt and Joshi.

While the losing team comprised Suresh (C), Khushal, Jagdish, Rajkumar, Vikram, Randhir Singh and Nasir Bhutto. While in badminton event, Sudhir managed to beat Narender Singh Panchpal.

In carom doubles, Dinesh Joshi and Devender Kumar defeated Jnaardan Tiwari and Imran. Also, Kumari Chaman Sharma beat Christina in carom singles. In painting competition, Manoj Kumar bagged the top honours and Hema Gurung was adjudged second. Gulgam Khan got the first place in essay writing while Vijender Chaudhary was the runner-up.
