Shaurya Divas:
The BJP today observed the Shaurya Divas on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Divas at three different functions. The Kisan Morcha held a programme at the Behlana panchayat ghar, under the leadership of Mohinder Singh, president of the Morcha. Harmohan Dhawan, senior BJP leader, was the main speaker on the occasion. The colony cell and the SC Morcha held a torchlight procession in the Bapu Dham Colony.

Tribune employee bereaved: Jiya Lal, son of Tribune employee Ramshankar, died after brief illness at Mauli Jagran on Monday. The cremation will take place at 11.30 am in Mani Majra on Tuesday.

Film on Premchand to be screened: The department of Hindi, Panjab University, has planned a series of functions on the occasion of Premchand Jayanti, which falls on July 31. A lecture on “Smriti Premchand” by Dr Virendra Mehandiratta, a short-story writer, will be held at 10 am.

Donated: Kavita Sehgal, president, State Bank Ladies Club, Chandigarh Circle, and other members of the club visited Government Senior Model School , Sector 22-C, and donated dresses to the band group of the school. They also planted saplings of fruit-bearing trees in the school premises.

Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Shri Sidh Baba Amarnath Mahavir Shiv Mandir Committee, Sector 29-C: president- Lalit Bhatia; vice-presidents- Dinesh Kumar and Brijesh Kumar Kalia; general secretary- Ashok Kapila; secretary- RK Bhargav; joint secretaries- Bhagwant Kishore and Jasbir Singh; propaganda secretaries- Rajesh Thakur and Sanjiv Sharma; organising secretaries- Rakesh Suri and Surinder Sharma; cashier- Sanjiv Benjwal; assistant cashier- Sunil Kumar.

Mohali
Appointment letters:
Prof Laxmi Kanta Chawla, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Punjab, gave away appointment letters to 11 ayurvedic medical officers and 47 upvaids, at a function held at the State Institute of the Health and Family Welfare here on Monday. These posts have been filled under the National Rural Health Mission on contract basis against vacant posts after confirmation from waiting list according to different categories.

Zirakpur
Guru Purnima:
The Patanjali Yogpeeth and the Bharat Swabhimaan Trust, Zirakpur, celebrated ‘Guru Purnima’ with great zeal and spirit on Sunday at the Royal Estate. Col Jagwant Bhatt (retired) was the chief guest on the occasion. Jasbir Singh, Purush Prabhari Yogpeeth, and Dr Sethi, a special guest, were also present on occasion. Giving the information about the celebrations, Krishna, woman president of the yogpeeth stated that the function started with the yoga classes. Krishan said the function was organised by Sunil Kumar, a yoga teacher. A tree plantation drive was also conducted and Sethi distributed herbal trees among the devotees. During the function, Sethi explained about the importance of natural life. He inspired the residents to love nature.

AMBALA
Congress poll:
A total of eight candidates, including president of the Ambala Congress block were elected unopposed for Ambala district in the Indian National Congress Organisational Elections. This was stated by Sewa Ram, district returning officer, Ambala, here on Monday. Block president Hira Lal Yadav, delegate to the Pradesh Congress Committee-Satish Saini, delegates to district Congress committee (six members)- Neelam Sharma, Varinder Gandhi, Sudhir Jaiswal, Kanshi Ram, Asha Chauhan and Suresh Trehan were elected unopposed, the sources added.

Karnal
MoU signed:
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Central Soil Salinity Research Institute (CSSRI), Karnal, and Haryana Operational Pilot Project (HOPP), Department of Agriculture, for providing technical guidance and scientific support for monitoring and evaluation of subsurface drainage at three locations of Jhajjar, Fatehabad and Palwal approved under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna.
