Stormy monsoon session on cards
Oppn rolls up sleeves to corner govt on price rise, other issues
Tribune New Service/PTI

New Delhi, July 25
The monsoon session of Parliament is expected to start on a stormy note tomorrow with a united Opposition set to confront the government on price rise and host of other issues, as the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha are expected to be adjourned immediately after obituary references over the death of two sitting members on the first day.

Though the BJP seems to have put the issue of arrest of its Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah by the CBI on the backburner fearing political isolation, the Opposition will press for an adjournment motion on price rise on Tuesday morning.

Senior party leaders at a meeting of the BJP parliamentary party at chairman LK Advani’s home this evening, chalked out their strategy for monsoon session.

In a veiled warning, Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj said, “There will not be any disturbance if the government heeded to our demand. The UPA partners, the DMK and the Trinamool Congress, too, wanted a discussion on price rise.”

Later, BJP deputy leader in the RS SS Ahluwalia listed “11 important issues” for this session, including petrol price hike, Indo-Pak relations, Bhopal gas tragedy, Naxalite issue and Commonwealth Games etc. He also mentioned what he called “misuse of the CBI”.

Sources said the BJP adopted this strategy realising that it would find few sympathisers even among its friends in the NDA, on the subject of Amit Shah and his benefactor CM Narendra Modi.
