Clinical Establishment Bill
IMA to hold district-level protests
Tribune Reporters

Jalandhar, July 13
To press the government against the implementation of the Clinical Establishment Bill, 2010, the state unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) decided to hold protests at all the district headquarters of the state on July 15.

Dr R.S. Parmar, President, IMA, Punjab, said members of the IMA would hold protest rallies and dharnas on July 15 at the district-level all over the state. He said doctors would deal only with medical emergencies during the protest.

All the state units of the IMA would organise protests simultaneously across the country and it would be completely non-political in nature, he said.

Dr Yash Sharma, ex-member, Punjab Medical Council and past president of the IMA, said the members of
all the district branches would submit a memorandum, addressed to the Prime Minister and the Vice-President of India, to the respective DCs. “Members of the association will meet the members of the Rajya Sabha from the state and will apprise them of the objectionable clauses in the Clinical Establishment Bill,” said Dr Sharma.

Nawanshahr: The district unit of the Indian Medical Association would hold a protest dharna in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner here on Thursday in protest against the Medical Establishment Bill. While giving this information, Dr Paramjit Mann, district president, IMA, termed the bill as anti-people and anti-doctor. The bill would just be in favour of the corporate sector, consequently, virtually making the healthcare services out of the each of the common man.

On the other hand, civic body President Vijay Mahajan said he had not been discriminating with any ward with regard to the carrying out of developmental plans in the city.

He said the developmental works in all the 13 wards of the council were in progress. He claimed that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had given a sum of Rs 2 crore to the municipal council in December 2009, out of which a sum of Rs 40 lakh was given to clear the salaries and other pending dues of the council employees and the remaining amount of Rs 1,60 crore had been spent on the developmental works carried out in different wards of the town.
