Bathinda
Train route restored
: Normal route of the trains passing through Bathinda that had been partially cancelled since Tuesday due to flooding by heavy rains at the yard in Ambala cantonment station, has been restored from Friday, sources in the railway said. Movement of at least three trains touching Bathinda junction were affected following the "natural calamity." The 335/336 passenger, the 4888/4887 link express and and the 4711/4712 Intercity were remained partially cancelled during the period. 

Lecture on sucrose content: Prof Ashok K. Dhawan, Director, Centre for Plant Biotechnology, Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agriculture University (CCSHAU), Hisar, on Friday stressed on increasing the sucrose content from its current value 10-12 per cent to theoretically proved 25 per cent. Prof Dhawan was delivering a lecture on “Sucrose accumulation in sugarcane stem - a unique system, dynamic controls” at the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda.

Blood Donation Camp
: About 500 units of blood was donated by the SAD (B) workers at a blood donation camp organised at Bazidpur village on the birth anniversary of Sukhbir Badal, Rohit Vohra Montu, president, SAD (B), urban unit, Ferozepur, informed.

Moga
Blood Donation Camp:Youth wing of the ruling SAD held a blood donation camp to mark the occasion. Barjinder Singh Brar, senior vice-president of youth wing of the SAD and president of Moga municipal council inaugurated the camp on the premises of Guru Nanak College, in which, 130 units of blood was donated.

Gold coins: The Punjab and Sind Bank will start trading in gold and silver coins and bars, according to its executive director PK Anand. According to him, these coins and bars, ideal for investment and gifting, will be competitively priced on the basis of the international bullion market.

Tree plantation: Keeping up its legacy of “concern for the society and citizenry of Chandigarh”, the Department of Social Welfare on Thursday celebrated the birthday of Meena, an inmate of Nari Niketan, by organising a tree plantation ceremony. Director, Social Welfare, Samwartak Singh and NGOs from the field of social welfare participated in the ceremony. 

Man held with smack:The police yesterday arrested a resident of Dadu Majra Colony (DMC) while allegedly carrying 10 gram smack. The police arrested Om Parkash, alias Omi, a resident of DMC, while alleging carrying 10 gram smack near the taxi stand in Sector 38 (West). A case under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered at the police station-39.

Bank branch
: Canara Bank director Sunil Gupta opened the 162nd branch of the bank in the Chandigarh circle at Phase VII, Industrial Area, here on Thursday. Chandigarh circle head-cum-general manager AG Gururaja Murthy said it was a general banking branch with core banking and locker facilities and would extend banking services catering to needs of all segments of society.

Arrested:The police yesterday arrested Sahil Sharma, a resident of Kathua, Jammu & Kashmir, from the road separating Sectors 42 and 43 for riding a motorcycle bearing fake registration plate. A case has been registered in this connection.
