Centre to J&K : Crack whip on stone pelters
No vague chargesheets, slap rioting cases on culprits
New Delhi, July 1
Clearly worried over the recent spate in incidents of violence in Kashmir, the Centre has asked the Jammu and Kashmir Government to act tough against stone pelters and book them under serious charges, including rioting.

UPA goes slow on caste census
New Delhi, July 1
The first meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) on the inclusion of caste in the ongoing census remained inconclusive. It will meet again for another round of deliberations on the emotive issue.The ministerial panel, headed by Pranab Mukherjee, will be writing to all political parties to elicit their views on the subject.

Amritpal (17) was murdered with the consent of her mother, alleged her maternal aunts here today, perturbed by reports that the state police is investigating if the girl committed suicide. The three maternal aunts today claimed that their sister and the deceased’s mother, Rajbir Kaur, had called them up to inform that the girl was being stubborn and therefore she had been killed and cremated.

Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sharad Pawar today formally took over as the International Cricket Council (ICC) president, succeeding Englishman David Morgan.
