GND varsity exams results declared:
The results of BCA-1, B.Sc (IT)-II, B.Sc (biotechnology) -I, B.Com -II, B.Sc (fashion designing)-I, postgraduate diploma in computer application, B.Sc (food science and technology)-I, Bachelor of Fine Art, Part-I, II, III and IV, and Bachelor of Performing Art, Part- II, III and IV, examinations held by Guru Nanak Dev University in April, 2010, were declared here today. Dr R.K. Bedi, Professor In charge (Examinations), said these results were available on university website www.gndu.ac.in. 

Merit list on varsity website today: The merit list for online admission to B.Sc (Honours School) Sciences, B.Pharmacy and Bachelor of Physiotherapy for the academic year 2010-11 would be available on the university websites www.gnduadmissions.org or www.gndu.ac.in tomorrow. Prof B.S. Bajwa, Coordinator for admissions, said the counselling for the reserved categories would be held on July 7 while the counselling for the general category would be conducted on July 8.

Road show against drug addiction
: To mark the recently passed International De-addiction Day, a one-hour road show was organised by the district health authorities in collaboration with FM Rainbow here yesterday. Anchor Rekha Kashyap briefly interviewed commuters on the roads and aired their views on eradication of the evil of drug addiction. Civil Surgeon Dr S.K. Gupta said the show was aimed at promoting the international de-addiction campaign.

IDBI Fortis branch in city: IDBI Fortis Life Insurance opened its branch at Lajpat Nagar here on Monday. The insurance company, which started its operations in March 2008, leads with its innovative product “Wealthsurance”. BJP protests against fuel price hike
: Hundreds of BJP activists, led by district BJP president Aakash Kalia, held a demonstration against an unexpected hike in the prices of petroleum products here yesterday. The protesters burnt the effigy of the UPA government at Goal Chowk in the evening. They were demanding immediate rollback of the increase in prices of petroleum products.

Police advised to beef up security at langar venues
: In the wake of recent intrusion bids, intelligence agencies have advised the police to provide extra security at langar (community kitchen) venues along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway being organised to provide free food to pilgrims going on the Amarnath yatra. The yatra will commence tomorrow morning. The first jatha will leave the base camp at 5 am. Fearing militant attacks, the security agencies have advised the police to make three-tier security arrangements for the langar venues as the places allotted for langar are very close to drains and nullahs, which have proved to be a route of infiltration in the past. 

CRPF exercises utmost restraint in dealing with mobs’: With the Kashmir valley on the boil again, Special DG, CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir zone, NK Tripathi said on Tuesday that the paramilitary force had always exercised maximum restraint while dealing with unruly crowds in Kashmir. “We have always tackled the situation exercising the maximum restraint, a fact substantiated by injuries to over 1,700 of our jawans in stone throwing by unruly crowds in Kashmir in the past two years,” said Tripathi.

Transfers in Planning Department:
The government ordered transfers and postings in the Planning and Development Department on Tuesday. An official spokesman said SA Qureshi, Director, Perspective Planning and Manpower Planning, has been posted as Director, Economics and Statistics, against an available vacancy. Manohar Khajuria, Director, Project Appraisal and Plan Monitoring, has been posted as Director, Perspective Planning and Manpower Planning. Besides, SS Jamwal, Joint Director, Economics and Statistics, at present working as Joint Director (CSS) in the Planning and Development Department has been designated as Director, CSS/BADP, till the post is filled on a substantive basis.
