Pakistan has virtually ruled out barring Jamaat-ud Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed, mastermind of the Mumbai terror attack, from making inflammatory speeches targeting India. “In a democracy, there is freedom of expression in Pakistan as in India. There are all sorts of people making all kinds of speeches.

UK, France back India for permanent UNSC seat
Toronto, June 27
In a significant development, Britain and France voiced their support for India’s long-standing case for permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). This backing came from both countries during their respective bilateral meetings, held between Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and new British Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Nicolas Sarkozy, ahead of G-20 Summit at Toronto.

Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal notched up an incredible hat-trick of titles by successfully defending her Indonesia Open Super Series trophy with a hard-fought win over Japan’s Sayaka Sato here today.The top seeded world number three defeated her unseeded but resolute rival 21-19, 13-21, 21-11 in a roller-coaster encounter that lasted 45 minutes.

Cigarette seller’s son makes it to Indian roller hockey team

A roadside cigarette vendor’s son from Jammu has made it to the Indian roller hockey team. Living true to the saying “where there’s a will there’s a way”, Ankush Gupta (19), a resident of Peer Mitha Devidwar Gali here, has excelled against all odds to be chosen to represent India in the Asian Roller Hockey Championship scheduled to be held later this month.

Govt clarifies stand on Sikh blacklist
New Delhi: The government today issued a clarification on the issue of reviewing the 'blacklist' of radical Sikhs, who had indulged in anti-India activities and taken political asylum in foreign countries. The matter was being reviewed by the government and the Ministry of External Affairs and the Home Ministry were in touch on the subject, said official sources. — TNS

Court says they were duty-bound to test its veracity
New Delhi, June 27
The Delhi High Court has cautioned the judges of lower courts against accepting testimony of an eyewitness as "gospel truth", saying that they were duty-bound to test its veracity. "It is unfortunate that we are repeatedly noting that the trial judges are gullibly accepting as gospel truth whatever is spoken of by those who claim to be eyewitnesses," a bench comprising Justices Pradeep Nandrajog and Suresh Kait said.
