Shahzad pleads guilty
Wanted to kill civilians, warns US of more attacks
New York, June 22
Describing himself a “Muslim soldier”, a defiant Pakistani-American Faisal Shahzad pleaded guilty to carrying out the botched Times Square bombing and warned that the US would face more attacks, if they don’t leave the “Muslim lands”.

n On May 1, Shahzad built a bomb in his apartment in Bridgeport and loaded it into the back of his Nissan Pathfinder.
n He was pulled off a Dubai-bound flight on May 5, two days after he parked a car packed with rudimentary explosives in New York’s Broadway entertainment district.
n He also pleaded guilty to the charge of conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction.
n The sentencing has been set for October 5.

The Punjab Police has sought a special Central assistance of Rs 100 crore to build capacity to counter the ‘growing’ Maoist threat to the state. Unnerved by the increasing frequency of violent agitations, the state police has established a special intelligence wing to deal with Naxal-related issues and would now like to create special forces and equip them to deal with the emerging crisis.
