Inter-caste marriage ends in couple’s murder

The recent inter-caste marriage, solemnised by a young couple from Bihar, ended after the brutal murder of the couple. They were found dead in nearby Miherru village in Phagwara sub-division on Thursday morning.

Missing liquor cases: Excise Inspector confesses
14-day judicial remand for five accused

Excise Inspector Sat Pal has confessed to have earned Rs 7.80 lakh from the deal, out of which transactions worth Rs 4.95 lakh have been found in his different banks accounts and proceedings to seal the operation of his bank accounts have been initiated, SSP Narinder Bhargav stated this in a press release issued here today about the latest developments in the missing liquor boxes case.

Inter-caste marriage ends in couple’s murder

Phagwara, June 17
The recent inter-caste marriage, solemnised by a young couple from Bihar, ended after the brutal murder of the couple. They were found dead in nearby Miherru village in Phagwara sub-division on Thursday morning.

SSP Kapurthala Ram Singh, who visited the site, said veins of the necks of both husband and wife, identified as Kamlesh Singh Yadav and Khushvu Kumari, were found cut.

The bodies with blood stains were noticed by their employer Amarjit Singh, also the sarpanch of the village.

Chiherru Police SHO Hargurdev Singh said the police had recovered a blade with bloodstains near the site of murder.

He said the police had registered a case under section 302 of the IPC and sent the bodies to local Civil Hospital for the post-mortem examination.

SSP Ram Singh said the police was working on various theories. “We have succeeded to get vital clues of the murder and hopefully killers would soon be nabbed,” he added. Dog squads and fingerprint experts were summoned and it was observed that dog squads stopped on a road towards Salarpur.

SP Phagwara Kamaljit Singh Dhillon, SP (D) Lakhwinder Singh Khaira and other police officials were investigating the matter and cause of murder.

The Tribune has learnt that Kamlesh (21) of Baharpur village fell in love with Khushvu (20) of Maziana village of Jahanabad district in Bihar and both solemnised their marriage in Bihar and came to Punjab and registered their marriage in the high court about three months back and started living in Miherru village. They took up a job in the fields of sarpanch Amarjit Singh few months back.

The Tribune has observed that perhaps this inter-caste marriage was not acceptable to their parents.

Man shot dead, 4 booked

A land dispute at Kadgill village, 6 km from here, led to the murder of a 40-year-old man. Four persons have been booked for the crime.

According to information, the deceased has been identified as Daljit Singh, while the accused have been identified as Jasbir Singh (paternal uncle of the deceased), Sukhchain Singh and Sabha Singh of the same village, besides Milkha Singh of Pandori Gola village.

Sadha Singh, father of the deceased, in his statement to the police alleged that he along with Daljit Singh and elder brother Sulakhan Singh were standing in the fields this noon when the accused armed with guns came there on motorcycles and after a short verbal altercation over the land dispute fired two shots at his son Daljit. Daljit died on the spot.

Only two days back village elders had made both the parties reach an agreement, but Jasbir, who was in a fit of rage today, fired at some other persons in the village before killing Daljit. A case under section 302 of the IPC besides sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the accused. The accused fled away after committing the crime. — OC

Missing liquor cases: Excise Inspector confesses
14-day judicial remand for five accused

Excise Inspector Sat Pal has confessed to have earned Rs 7.80 lakh from the deal, out of which transactions worth Rs 4.95 lakh have been found in his different banks accounts and proceedings to seal the operation of his bank accounts have been initiated, SSP Narinder Bhargav stated this in a press release issued here today about the latest developments in the missing liquor boxes case.

While Sat Pal was arrested on June 8, on the basis of revelations made by him, the police arrested Vishal Kumar and Raj Kumar and recovered 13, 138 and 162 boxes of stolen liquor as well as Rs 44,000, 1,78,000 and 1,25,000 from them, respectively.

Owing to revelations by the accused, the police recovered 357 more boxes of liquor.

On June 9 and 13, two more accused in the case - Hardeep Singh, alias Deepa, and Sandeep Singh, alias Saggu, both drivers - were also arrested and 10 boxes of liquor each were recovered from them. Besides, the police also impounded the vehicles used in the crime. The police recovered as many as 56 boxes of liquor from Raj Kumar.

As many as 872 boxes of liquor had gone missing from the unsold stock of previous year’s 2,415 boxes confiscated by the Excise Department. The police had recovered as many as 746 stolen boxes of liquor and Rs 3.03 lakh from the accused which they had earned by selling the stolen liquor.

The police had registered a case under sections 409, 457, 380 and 120-B of the IPC on June 7 on the basis of a complaint lodged by the manager of Brij Mohan Singh and Company from whose store the liquor was stolen and a special investigation team led by SP (HQ) Jagjit Singh Gill was constituted.

All five persons arrested in the case had been sent in a 14-day judicial remand. Further investigations to probe the involvement of senior officials of the Excise Department was going on, added SSP Narinder Bhargav.

ETT teachers to intensify agitation

The ETT Teachers Union, Punjab, has decided to intensify its agitation by withdrawing all ETT teachers working in the offices at different levels from July 1 in case the state government failed to take control of the government schools back from the zila parishads and give it to the Education Department.

State general secretary Ranjit Singh Bath, while addressing a district-level meeting of the union here yesterday said the union had raised its demand so many times, but nothing concrete had been done so far in spite of the assurances.

Bath said in case the government failed to accept their demand all ETT teachers working as assistant district coordinators, centre master trainees (CMT) and block master trainees (BMT) would be called back to their respective schools. The union would also not respond to the letters of the Education Department, he said.

As many as 300 teachers participated in the meeting.
