Moga, May 21
The terror of contract killers in Moga district and its adjoining areas of Ludhiana, Barnala and Faridkot districts hascome to an end.

After a hectic search operation carried out in the past few weeks with the help of intelligence inputs, latest technology and coordination of the police force of these districts, the Punjab police have managed to nab five gangsters in Jagraon while the 'mastermind' has fallen in the net of Moga police.

All the arrested gangsters are youth in their mid-twenties who first joined hands to settle personal scores but suddenly jumped into the 'game of terror' with contract killings.

The Jagraon police have arrested five youths identified as Gurpreet Singh Lehmber, a resident of village Salempura, Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Gursar Kaonke, Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, a resident of village Sher Jung, Charanjit Singh alias Rinku a resident of Barnala and Hardeep Singh alias Kaka, a resident of Mehal Kalan village.

Apart from these gangsters, some others like Karnail Singh, Raman Kumar, Jasbir Singh alias Jassi and Charanjit Singh have also been rounded up for helping them in the gang wars.

Tehal Singh, in-charge of CIA staff at Jagraon said these youths were nursing a grudge against those whom they killed together. Lehmber was out to murder Harmanjit Singh for the latter had gone to his house and insulted his mother and sister-in-law.

Similarly, Charanjit Singh killed the sarpanch of Gazeana village in Moga district after the latter beat him up and the sarpanch of Daudhar was killed for he had allegedly snatched the land of Mandip Singh alias Dhruv, one of their friends.

The Jagraon police had recovered illegal arms from them, which include one .12 bore gun, one .315 bore pistol, one .315 bore rifle and an Indica car, which was used in all these crimes.

As per the police record, they killed Harmanjit and injured one Daljit Singh in broad daylight outside the Jagraon court complex on January 20, this year. This murder was a result of a fallout between the two groups over the student union presidentship of a local college.

On March 6, Inderjeet Singh, the sarpanch of Gajeana village, was shot dead by the same group near Lopo village in the Moga district. In this case, they used Raman Kumar, a resident of the same village to provide information about the movement of the deceased person.

A few days later on April 22, in a night shoot-out, a village sarpanch Rashpal Singh and his private gunman Jagtar Singh were shot dead at Dhaudhar village in Moga district.

On the other hand, the Moga police had managed to nab Mandeep Singh alias Dhruv, the leader of this gang.
