Adulterated dal lands hospital in soup

The department of health and family welfare has registered a case against SPS Apollo Hospital under the Prevention of Food Adulteration (PFA) Act following the failure of “moong dal” sample procured from the mess of the hospital on January 28.

Broken park boundary wall yet to be fixed

A Tribune photograph Life appears to have come to a standstill for Jagjit Singh and his wife Raj Kaur after the latter, despite having undergone sterilization earlier, gave birth to their third child following her unwanted pregnancy. Unable to bear the burden of bringing up a third child, Raj and her husband, a daily wage labourer, have filed a complaint in the city’s permanent ‘Lok Adalat’ after they failed to get compensation for the unsuccessful operation.

Encroachments on Tajpur road removed
Ludhiana, April 20
About 80 encroachments were removed from the Tajpur road, falling under Zone B, here today by the MC. The drive went on for about three hours under the supervision of assistant town planner Kamaljeet Kaur and the police.

Women teachers can exchange place of duty: DC
Ludhiana, April 20
Providing a respite to women teachers of government schools put on Census duty, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) today ordered that they could exchange their place of duty with their male counterparts after a mutual consent.

Diabetes camp
Ludhiana, April 20
The Hero Charitable Trust today organised a free diabetes and orthopaedics camp in South City, Ludhiana. The poor and needy people were provided free medicines and blood tests were also conducted free of cost in the camp.

Orientation programme
To mark the beginning of Class XI, Sat Paul Mittal School conducted an orientation programme for parents and children. Fire destroys record room of Jagraon market body
Jagraon, April 20
The record room of Jagraon Market Committee was burnt down yesterday under mysterious circumstances. The records of 16 centres controlled by the market committee, Jagraon, besides the records of Asia's second largest grain market turned into ashes. The fire incident took place last night. Secretary of market committee Nachatter Singh said a police complaint had been lodged to ascertain the reason behind the fire. He further added that the computer, fax machine, photostat and the record kept in the room had been burnt and the loss was irreparable. The loss in monetary terms is around Rs 2 lakh.

BSNL employees go on indefinite strike

Workers of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) went on a nationwide indefinite strike against the disinvestment of the nigam and retrenchment of one lakh employees here today. The call for the strike has been given by the Joint Action Committee of BSNL associations and unions.

Ludhiana cycle manufacturers are heading towards China to get some tips from the business giant. While nearly 10 cycle manufacturers from the city have recently opened up their offices in China for handling exports and source cheap bicycle components, the remaining cycle industry has zoomed to the neighbouring country to take a peek into their style and mode of working.

Sect seeks renaming of Jagraon
Jagraon, April 20
A local sect has sought the renaming of Jagraon after Sant Baba Nand Singh. They want it to be renamed Baba Nand Singh Nagar. The demand follows the naming of Jagraon bus stand after Amar Shaheed Lala Lajpat Rai. Interestingly, they had earlier sought the naming of the bus stand after Baba Nand Singh. A large number of leaders gathered at the Nanaksar Thath here yesterday and termed Baba Nand Singh, founder of Nanaksar sect, a great spiritual and religious leader of 20th century.

Patwari, 23 head of cattle killed in accident
Ludhiana, April 20
A patwari was killed in a road accident here this morning. At least 23 head of cattle were also killed in the accident. Balwinderjeet Singh (52), a resident of Kakowal, was on his way from Karabara Chowk to Kakowal on a scooter when a truck laden with cattle calves hit him.
