US, Russia ink pact to cut N-arsenal

The United States and Russia signed a landmark strategic nuclear disarmament treaty on Thursday and said new sanctions may be necessary to put pressure on Iran to renounce its nuclear ambitions.

With the government overlooking its own civil service rules formulated to ease out inefficient or the corrupt deadwood from its “babudom”, dishonest officials are thriving.

Appeal filed in UAE court
New Delhi, April 8
Thanks to the government’s initiative, an appeal has been filed in a Sharjah court on behalf of 17 Indians, who were recently sentenced to death in the emirate for killing a Pakistani national and injuring three of his compatriots.

Govt clears disinvestment in SAIL

The government today approved disinvestment in Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) to mop up an estimated Rs 16,000 crore by selling its equity and issuing fresh shares to the public.

As if the unusually high temperatures of March were not enough, April, too, is likely to be warmer than usual over the country, except the southern peninsula. The silver lining: the departures from normal temperatures will not be as high as in the month of March-2010, now officially the warmest month, breaking previous records at many places in the country.
