SIT summons Modi in riots’ case

Ahmedabad, March 11
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was summoned for the first time for questioning in the 2002 riots after a Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) asked him to appear before it on March 21.

Eight years after the post-Godhra riots, Modi suffered the ignominy of being the first-ever CM of any state to be called for questioning in connection with a criminal complaint after he and his administration were accused of aiding and abetting riots in one area here.

The summons were issued in connection with the complaint by Zakia Jaffery, widow of former Congress MP Ehsan Jaffery who was killed in the 2002 Gulburg Society riots. “We have asked the Chief Minister (Modi) to appear before us on March 21,” SIT chief RK Raghavan said today. — PTI
