BCA topper of PTU:
Harpreet Kaur, student of GNA Institute of Management and Technology Phagwara has obtained the first position in Bachelor of Computer Application of Punjab Technical University in the last session (2009) by securing 88.16 per cent marks. She was awarded the gold medal for academic excellence by Punjab Governor-cum-Vice Chancellor Shivraj Patil at Chandigarh. She presently studies MBA at the Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana, and dreams to contribute her share in administration.

Morinda
Cultural programme:
Morinda and Nehru Yuva Kendra organised a cultural programme in collaboration with Shaheed Bharat Singh Memorial Youth Club. Participants from J &K, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Tripura and Punjab presented various events.

Arrangements for exams:
District Education Officer Darshan Kaur said the arrangements are in place for conducting board examination of middle and senior secondary classes scheduled to be commenced from March 2. As many as 97 examination centres had been set up and supervisory staff had been deputed at all the examination centres. The requisite examination related material as well as the instructions for conducting board examination had been disbursed to all the centre controllers and superintendents, said the DEO adding that the District Education Office would remain open on Monday despite holiday for the redressal of problems relating to board examination. Business advisory committee:
Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Harmohinder Singh Chatha has constituted a business advisory committee to conduct business in the Haryana Legislative Assembly. Chatha will be its ex-officio chairperson and Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala, Finance Minister Capt Ajay Singh Yadav, Leader of Opposition Om Parkash Chautala and MLAs Akram Khan and Krishan Pal Garjar will be its members.

KURUKSHETRA
Club inaugurated:
SAEINDIA National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kurukshetra Collegiate Club was inaugurated by Dr MN Bandyopadhyay, Director, NIT, Kurukshetra, on Friday. Dr Bandyopadhyay emphasised upon the fact that it was essential for not be bound to theoretical knowledge alone but also have a practical overview of the concepts and students should be able to apply these concepts in real-life situations. The inaugural session was followed by an expert lecture by Sudhir Kumar, Regional Service Training Manager, Maruti.

Annual day celebrated:
Vice-chairman of the University Grant Commission (UGC) Prof Ved Prakash on Saturday said there was a need of such education system which fulfills the social and economic requirements of the people. He was addressing the annual prize distribution function of CRA College here. Principal Dr Narender Singh presented the annual report of the college. The function was presided by INLD leader Surender Singh. Prof Ved Prakash distributed the prizes among students, who had excelled in various fields. A cultural programme was also presented by students on the occasion.

JCO dies in mishap:
A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was killed in a road accident in Rajouri district today, the police said. It said the deceased, Naib Subedar Inderjeet Singh, was on his way to his native village, Siri, from his 13 J&K Rifles unit at Nowshera in Rajouri when he was reportedly hit by an Army water tanker.He died on the spot.

Five consume poison: Five persons allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming poison in the Jammu region today, the police said. Younis of Chang Ramgarh,Sandeep Kour of Mishriwala,Pinkey Devi of Arnia, Karnail Singh of Roop Nagar and Vipal Gupta of Kathua were admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after they consumed poison,it said.

Militant hideout busted: Army troops today busted a militant hideout and recovered two improvised explosive devices and a 10-kg explosive shell in Rajouri district, defence sources said. During a search operation, the troops busted a hideout in Kaniale Di Gali forest belt in Rajouri district, they said, adding two IEDS and a 10-kg shell were recovered from the spot.
