Ill-treatment of yoga professionals flayed
Nainital, January 24 A large number of students and activists of the Youth Congress burnt the effigy of Bisht at Tallital to express their resentment over the treatment meted out to young yoga professionals at Haldwani. Yesterday, a contingent of yoga professionals, who have been protesting to the press the government to fulfil their demands over the past few days, went to a private college where Bisht was attending a programme of the ABVP. They wanted to hand over a memorandum of their demands to Bisht. However, they were stopped by the ABVP activists at the entrance of the pandal and told that they could meet the minister once the programme was over. When the former tried to force their way into the pandal, the ABVP activists thrashed them after a heated exchange of words. Seeing the situation becoming precarious, the police stepped in and managed to throw the agitators out by using force. The yoga professionals have been airing their demands for jobs in educational institutes. They have been questioning the reluctance on the part of the government to recruit them despite their having completed formal education in yoga training. They have also questioned the tall claims made by the government with regards to promoting yoga as a profession in the state and also as an alternative to the sex education, to which the BJP and other Hindutva organisations are opposed. The protesters at Nainital also asked if the government was not in a mood to give them jobs, why were they cheated and fleeced into pursuing courses in yoga? They have threatened to launch a statewide agitation against the government. |
