100 MLAs quit over statehood to Telangana
Hyderabad, December 10
Andhra Pradesh today plunged into a crisis following a spate of resignations by MPs and MLAs, across the political spectrum, in protest against the Centre’s decision to grant statehood to the Telangana region.

Chinese PM speaks to Manmohan
New Delhi, December 10
In a significant development, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao today telephoned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to exchange views on the Copenhagen Climate Change summit. Wen discussed with Manmohan Singh various issues connected with the summit, official sources said. The two leaders agreed that the two sides would remain in touch on the Copenhagen meet. They also discussed issues of bilateral interest, they added.

Assam blasts kill boy, injure 29
Guwahati, December 10
A seven-year-old boy was killed and 29 others injured, five of them seriously, when suspected militants of the anti-talks faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) lobbed two grenades, one at a crowded weekly market at Missamari and another at Rakshakmari near Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district of North Assam this afternoon.

Zardari wants US to mediate on Kashmir
New York, December 10
In an apparent bid to drag the United States into the long pending Kashmir issue, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has said Washington should step in to mediate and help resolve the core issue between India and Pakistan. In his article in the New York Times, Zardari, while welcoming America’s $7.5 billion pledge over the next five years for non-military projects in Pakistan.

Prize money denied to World Cup boxers
Chandigarh, December 10
Last year, around these chilly winter days, four men shattered a few bones, broke unimaginable sweat, ripped through punches and did what the nation of a billion had failed to accomplish till then, and has not been able to emulate since. Four medals at the Boxing World Cup in Moscow last year are India’s best haul in an international event and it was also India’s first medal-winning performance in the World Cup in 14 years.
