Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Mohd Saeed, accused of masterminding the Mumbai attacks, is “in custody” of Pakistani authorities. This was announced by Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani today but did not make it clear whether Saeed has been arrested.

Kobad Ghandy, a politburo member of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) who was apprehended by the Delhi police’s special cell on Sunday night, had gone underground way back in the early 1980s. He and his wife, Anuradha Shanbag, were actively involved with Naxalite groups in Andhra Pradesh and worked their way upwards in the party.

Punjab IPS officers told to declare assets

The Punjab State Information Commission today ordered that the IPS officers serving in the state would have to provide copies showing their assets to anyone who sought these under the Right to Information Act.

Holding that no prior sanction was required to proceed against an accused abetting another officer to accept bribe, the Supreme Court has allowed the CBI to prosecute a top Customs and Central Excise officer under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

After “tweeting” his way into a major controversy with his party over his “cattle class” and “holy cows” remarks, Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday met Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who is believed to have warned him that there should be no further controversial statements from him and advised him to “respect comman man’s sentiments”.
