Supreme Court judges to disclose assets
New Delhi, August 26
Under mounting public pressure, the judges of the Supreme Court today decided to make public their assets, an issue that had been haunting higher judiciary for quite some time. “A decision in principle has been taken on the issue at a meeting convened by Chief Justice of India KG Balakrishnan and the details of the assets to be declared by the judges would be put on the Supreme Court website,” a top apex court source said after the two-hour deliberations.

Punjab wants Rs 7,400 cr to tackle drought
New Delhi, August 26
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today assured the Prime Minister that the state would meet its grain production target for the national food pool. However, the state and its farmers paid a heavy price to maintain the crop due to unprecedented dry spell, he said. Badal said the immediate need was to hike the minimum support price for paddy by another Rs 400 per quintal.

India: Act against Saeed now
New Delhi, August 26
A day after Interpol issued a red corner notice against Hafiz Saeed, India has asked Pakistan to immediately act against the Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief, key plotter of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. “Interpol has issued a red corner notice for Saeed’s involvement… it is a vindication of the stand the government has taken,” External Affairs Minister SM Krishna told reporters here today.

HC notice to CBI on Buta Singh’s plea
New Delhi, August 26
The Delhi High Court today sought response from the CBI on a petition filed by NCSC chairman Buta Singh whereby he had accused the probe agency of illegally summoning him for interrogation in an alleged bribery case involving his son. Singh, a former Bihar Governor and chairman of National Commission for Schedule Caste (NCSC), contended that he holds a post of Cabinet rank and the CBI cannot question or interrogate him without taking sanction from the Centre.
