First suspected swine flu death in tricity

2 cholera cases confirmed
Panchkula, August 22
Even as two samples of suspected cholera cases sent to the PGI yesterday have tested positive, the number of patients reaching the General Hospital here reached 25 today.

Ailing Naresh needs donations to survive

Naresh Sharma Naresh Sharma (36) was hopeful of leading a healthy and normal life following a successful bone marrow transplant in the PGI, but the destiny willed it otherwise. Two months after the transplant, he has developed acute post-segment complications of graft versus host disease, once again putting his life in danger. With all his savings exhausted, this young man’s only hope for survival now is month’s dose of “Ramicade”, 300 mg per week worth Rs 70,000 each.

Abattoir, hotel waste found dumped in Dadu Majra plant

Mayor Kamlesh and a few elected councillors it seem are bent upon finding faults in the functioning of the garbage processing plant in Dadu Majra, but they seem to be ignoring the under utilization of the biogas plant at the Industrial Area, Phase I, and the practice of disposing off the slaughter house’s waste at the garbage dump in violation of rules.

MC plans bus queue shelters, other amenities

To decongest the public land near the Zirakpur-Panchkula intersection, the Municipal Council has planned two bus queue shelters and other public amenities. A green belt has also been planned on the public land, adjoining a mall.

Woman sustains 90 pc burn injuries

A physically challenged woman in her early thirties sustained 90 per cent burn injuries while working in a kitchen here in Sector 52. The seriously injured woman was admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32.

Daughter-in-law of doctor found dead

Uma Arora (31), daughter-in-law of Dr Balbir Arora, a resident of Ward Number 8, was found dead under mysterious circumstances here today. In his complaint to the police, her father Narender Kumar, a resident of Jagraon, stated that his daughter married Amarinder 10 years ago and the couple had two sons out of wedlock.

Punjabi University, Patiala, has developed a web-based machine translation system which translates Hindi into Punjabi. Dr Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the university, said they had launched a Punjabi search engine last year.

A youth was killed and 20 other injured when a private bus overturned near Dorana village 15 km from here this morning.

One killed in accident
Rajpura, August 22
A native of Bihar was killed in an accident in the wee hours today when the tractor he was driving overturned near here. The deceased, Sanjay, was accompanied by two others on the tractor who were identified as Vinod and Amarnath.

60-year-old hit by motorcycle, dies

Sat Pal Khan, a resident of Karanpur village of Pinjore block, has lodged a complaint in the Pinjore police station that his father Hira Khan (60) was hit by a motorbike today when he was on his way to offer namaz.

A local court today remanded the DAV College student, who was arrested yesterday, in judicial custody for 14 days. The police had arrested 22-year-old Ashish for using fake currency for paying his college fee.

Rs 10,000 stolen from PU gurdwara
Chandigarh, August 22
Granthi of Gurdwara Shri Muktsar Sahib, Panjab University, has alleged that cash worth Rs 10,000 was stolen from a cashbox lying in the gurdwara on the intervening night of August 20 and 21. A case under Section 380 of the IPC has been registered at Sector 11 police station.
