HC: Exhume bodies of Shopian rape victims
Gives sweeping powers to SIT for nabbing accused
Srinagar, July 4
The Jammu and Kashmir High Court today ordered the exhuming of bodies in the Shopian incident, subject to the consent of the two deceased women’s family members, and gave sweeping powers to the Special Investigation Team for nabbing the accused behind the women’s alleged rape and murder. The division bench of Chief Justice Barin Ghosh and Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir also appointed IG, CID, Farooq Ahmad, as the head of the SIT even though he had expressed his inability to be a part of the investigation for domestic problems.

N Korea tests seven missiles
Seoul/Washington, July 4
In it’s second biggest salvo of ballistic weaponry in three years, North Korea today test- fired seven missiles, sending a message of defiance to the USA, on its Independence Day. The seven missiles, all believed to be of short or intermediate range, were fired toward the Sea of Japan from its southeastern region, the South Korean military said.

SGPC for chemical test of Kalgi
Amritsar, July 4
SGPC president Avtar Singh has favoured chemical testing of the Kalgi, said to be worn by Guru Gobind Singh, to cross-check its (relic’s) age, but the research team comprising Punjab cadre IPS officer Harpreet Singh Sidhu and Kamaljit Singh Boparai have opposed this.

After springing a surprise by offering to name the Bandra Worli Sea Link after former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Nationalist Congress Party leader Sharad Pawar is wooing Vilasrao Deshmukh, his archenemy in the Congress party. On Friday, Deshmukh announced his candidature for the post of vice-president of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) as a member of Sharad Pawar's panel.
