Nepal PM Prachanda quits
Nepal’s PM Prachanda announces his resignation during a nationwide broadcast in Kathmandu.
Less than 24 hours after trying to sack the Chief of the Army Staff, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal was himself forced to step down on Monday, having lost majority support in the Parliament. The Army chief, ironically, continues to be in charge after being directed to do so by the President, who is also the supreme commander.

Crisis in Nepal has India worried
New Delhi, May 4
The Taliban surge in Pakistan, the military offensive against the LTTE in Sri Lanka and now the political crisis in Nepal. India’s neighbourhood is on the boil once again and New Delhi’s has reasons to be worried over the evolving situation in Kathmandu.

30 killed as bus falls into Chenab
Udhampur, May 4
Thirty persons, 16 of them teachers, were killed after the minibus they were travelling in fell into the Chenab near Bandarkot village here today.

Formal complaints likely in Sanawar case

Apprehensive that failure to lodge formal complaints would pave the way for return of the seven Sanawar students expelled last week for brutally beating up a group of juniors, parents of some of the victims today planned to seek legal opinion and file FIRs.

Congress candidate Partap Singh Bajwa, in a complaint lodged with the Election Commission, has objected to the ruling SAD-BJP alliance for resorting to “blue card politics to browbeat voters belonging to weaker sections of society”.

Ex-Chief Secy Vaishnav dead
Chandigarh, May 4
Prafullachandra Harsukhrai Vaishnav, former Chief Secretary of Punjab, died here today after a brief illness. He was 77. Belonging to the 1956 batch of the IAS, PH Vaishnav held various important positions in the state government, including Financial Commissioner Development before his elevation as Chief Secretary in May 1985.
