Widows in the age group of 40-64 and persons with severe and multiple disabilities between 18 and 64 years will be now be entitled for a monthly pension of Rs 200. The Congress-led UPA government today approved the expansion of National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP), meant for the population below the poverty line, to include the new beneficiaries under its ambit.

A one-sided fare deal for daily bus travellers in Punjab
Jalandhar, February 5
About one lakh commuters will benefit from the discounted pass system introduced for all types of daily passengers by Punjab Roadways today. A Punjab Roadways spokesman said earlier only students and daily passengers of certain categories were issued discounted passes to travel in government buses.

The Punjab government today chose to reinstate the principal as well as the suspended staff of the Rajindra Hospital and Government Medical College, Patiala. Dr Jaswinderpal Kaur Shergill, principal of the Government Medical College, to which the Rajindra hospital is attached, was suspended following the death of five infants in the neonatology wing of the hospital last week.
