External affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee has said at present there was a pause in the comprehensive Indo-Pakistan dialogue process and hoped that Pakistan would fulfil its commitment on not allowing its territory from being used for terrorist activities against India.

The ‘don’ of non-violence

People facing serious criminal charges being elected to the Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha is hardly a surprise in Bihar. Almost all political parties have a fair share of such don-turned-politicians. There are also instances of incarcerated MLAs and MPs doing graduation, postgraduation and Phd from different varsities. But how about an MLA, involved in various crimes, including murder, loot, extortion and kidnapping, getting a doctorate for his research on non-violence.

No major hike likely in wheat MSP

A move that might not go down well with states, the Union government is likely to fix the minimum support price of wheat for the upcoming marketing season, beginning April next, at Rs 1,080 per quintal, as had been recommended by the Commission on Agricultural Costs and Prices.

India ‘nowhere’ near recession

P. ChidambaramIndia is nowhere near recession though it has been impacted by the global economic meltdown, home minister P. Chidambaram said today. “Many countries are facing recession but India is nowhere near recession,” Chidambaram, who previously held the finance portfolio, said during question hour in the Rajya Sabha.
