Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today offered an apology to the nation over the terrorist attacks on Mumbai on November 26. Concluding the day-long debate over the government resolution unanimously passed by Lok Sabha, he said: “On behalf of the government, I would like to apologise to our people for the fact that these dastardly acts could not be prevented.”

Kasab’s custody till Dec 24
Mumbai, December 11
Mohammed Ajmal Amir Iman, alias Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist who carried out last month’s attack in the city to be captured alive, was today remanded to police custody till December 24 by magistrate N.N. Sarvamangale of the Esplanade Metropolitan Court. Unlike the usual practice of producing a suspect before the court, the authorities decided to get the magistrate and prosecutor to the crime branch lock up at the Mumbai police commissioner’s office in south Mumbai.

Accident Case
SC hikes fine, reduces sentence
New Delhi, December 11
In an unusual verdict, the Supreme Court today raised the fine tenfold to Rs 20,000 in an accident case, but reduced the six-month sentence to the period already undergone, observing that it would be better if the convict was made to compensate the victim’s family than confining him in prison.

Ashok Gehlot has been chosen as the new Chief Minister of Rajasthan after newly elected MLAs of the Congress voted in his favour in a secret polling held at party headquarters today. The party would have two deputy Chief Ministers. They are Hansa Ram and Parsa Ram Maderna.
