Chandigarh, November 29
Besides putting the defence forces on high alert, instructions have been issued to defence personnel to keep their weapons with them all the time than getting them deposited with the Quarter Guards of their respective units as per existing rules.

Sources reveal that besides those on the quarter guard duty, other defence personnel, including those attached with senior officers, would retain their personal weapons all the time that are otherwise, in routine, deposited back with the quarter guards on return to barracks.

Such instructions are issued only in extreme emergency situations. These instructions have been, sources reveal, necessitated following the country’s worst ever terrorist strike in Mumbai.

While, the forces were asked to remain on ready-to-move mode, they have now been told to retain their weapons with them. Sources reveal that in many units, instructions have already been carried out and weapons issued to defence personnel concerned to keep with them in a high state of alert in the Western Command.
