The Oak tale
Mussoorie, November 21
In a bid to conserve the five species of oak found in Uttarakhand, the Mussoorie Forest Division has initiated the setting up a Centre of Excellence for Oaks. This centre would provide technical support and also information pertaining to the oak species in the state.

Paralympic seeks state assistance
Dehradun, November 22
Lack of interest in paralympics in the state failed to deter Prem Kumar, who won the first bronze medal for Uttarakhand. It was sheer hard work and determination that witnessed him competing in the 9th National Paralympic Swimming Competition held at Karnal, Haryana this month.

Another feather in Dimri’s cap
Dehradun, November 21
Dr V.P. Dimri, director of the National Geo-Physical Research Institute, Hyderabad, and a native of Karanprayag in Garhwal, was elected as the fellow of Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). A decision in this regard was taken at the TWAS annual meeting in Mexico. Earlier, Dr Dimri’s contributions had also been recognised through the fellowship of prestigious national academies such as Indian National Science Academy and National Academy of Sciences. He became the first Asian recipient of Lorenz Award of American Geophysical Union in 2007.
