One killed in road mishap: One person was killed and two were injured in a road mishap at National Highway-10 near Parley factory here on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Jagbir, resident of Rohtak. According to information, accident occurred when a truck coming from Rohtak collided with a Safari in which Jagbir, along with his two friends - Pradeep and Rakesh of Rohtak, was returning from Delhi. Jagbir reportedly died on the spot while Pradeep and Rakesh sustained serious injuries. They were rushed to the civil hospital and later were referred to PGIMS, Rohtak, due to their critical condition. REWARI
One arrested: On a tip off, the police apprehended Dharam Vir Yadav of Akoli village of Mahendergarh district on Wednesday. The police also seized an Alto car from his possession, which had been looted at his criminal behest by two miscreants from a liquor contractor Jagat Singh Yadav on the Gumina-Punsika road, near here, on Monday night. Dharam Vir, booked on charges of criminal conspiracy and possession of looted property, was today produced in the court of the ACJM who remanded him in judicial custody. A senior police official said as per revelation made by accused Dharma Vir, Sonu Yadav and Sanjay Yadav, both residents of Sihar village, were the two miscreants who had looted the Alto car, Rs 80,000, a gold chain and a mobile phone from Jagat Singh.

Dharna staged: Around 48 members of the Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, including women, led by samiti president Baburam Bhadole, a prominent leader of the BSP, staged a two-hour dharna on the National Highway No.88. They blocked traffic on the road at Jhanda village near here on Thursday, stressing their demands. BSP district president Kesh Pathania said this was as mark of protest against government’s failure to control and check the menace of monkeys, stray cattle and wild animals. DALHOUSIE
Eye check-up camp: As many as 175 eye patients suffering from various eye ailments have been examined and identified for eye operations in a free eye check-up camp organised by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) under its programme called ‘Corporate Community Development and Social Responsibility’ at Surangani, about 55 km from here on Wednesday. Computerised reservation counter: Following demand of the local Municipal Council (MC) the Railway Ministry has sanctioned the facility of computerised railway reservation counter at Nurpur road railway station and earmarked Rs 6 lakh for infrastructure to run it. In a communiqué by executive director (Public Grievances), Ministry of Railways, New Delhi, to local MC president Rakesh Mahajan received on Wednesday it was stated that the Passenger Reservation System on out of turn basis had been sanctioned.

2 Bangladeshis held: Two Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended by locals while they were roaming suspiciously on the India-Pakistan international border in Ramgarh sector of Samba district in the state, sources here on Thursday said. “The residents of Kajyal Koulpur village situated on the Indo-Pak border noticed a suspicious movement and apprehended two youths,” sources said, adding that they were later ascertained as Bangladeshis. The duo was handed over to the Army by the villagers.

Bodies of four jawans recovered: The bodies of four Army personnel were recovered, taking the death toll to six, while four persons were still missing following an avalanche in Gurez sector of Bandipora district along the Line of Control in the state. Army rescue-cum-search teams had recovered four bodies from the site of the avalanche in Gurez sector on Wednesday, defence sources said. Bodies of two jawans had been recovered earlier. The incident occurred on Monday when a seven-member Army team had gone there to search for three porters, who went missing a day before.Educational trip for children: Twenty-five schoolchildren living in areas along the Line of Control in Baramulla district left for a 10-day educational tour of the country on Thursday. “Our children are lucky as they could visit Srinagar and other parts of the country on this tour. Many of us have not visited even Srinagar,” Maqbool Wani, whose children were also selected for the trip, said here. Flagging off the tour, Commander of Rampur Brigade Brigadier V.P. Singh said: “The tour has been organised under the ‘Operation Sadbhavana’ to enable the children to see how people of different faiths and creed live together in India.” House gutted: A house was gutted in the Kashmir valley on Wednesday night, official sources said. A house was gutted in a fire at Umar Colony Lal Bazar in the city outskirts. The fire was brought under control before it could spread to neighbouring houses. In another incident, one person was injured when a vehicle hit his motorcycle at Nasarullah Pora in Badgam.
