Master plan: Some hope, much misgiving

The announcement of the Dehradun Master Plan has kindled hope among residents of the Doon valley, but raised doubt about the future shape of the city. For development of Dehradun till 2025 for an expected population of more than 15 lakh, the plan has much to promise, but will it be able to deliver?

From a small sleepy town to a big metropolis. The big change will also bring big vices associated with big cities. With the plan laying much emphasis on infrastructure development, the city seems set for a makeover. Both young and old alike would find hard to get space. The city has few vacant sites left.These would be gobbled by giant construction companies.

Councillors cautious
Dehradun, November 20
While the city mayor is upbeat over the announcement of the Doon Master Plan, councillors seem not quite sure as to how to react. Mayor Vinod Chamoli feels the master plan will lead to speedy implementation of developmental schemes.

Project to map villages affected by ravines
Dehradun, November 19 For reclaming the ravines in five districts of Uttar Pradesh, the Remote Sensing Application Centre (RSAC), in collaboration with the World Bank, will initiate a project next year.
