Inflation
reverses trend; rises to 10.72 pc New Delhi, November 6
Having continued its
southward journey for five weeks in a row, inflation rose
marginally to 10.72 per cent for the week ended October 25
from 10.68 per cent in the previous week. The annual rate of
inflation, measured by movement in the wholesale prices, was
at 3.11 per cent in the corresponding period a year ago.
Indian
American Sonal Shah in Obama’s advisory team President-elect
Barack Obama has appointed an Indian-American, Sonal Shah, to
his advisory board to assist in the smooth transition of power
and many other Indian-Americans are also likely to play key
roles in the Obama Administration. Sonal Shah, an economist
who currently serves as director for global development at
Google.org promoting the firm’s philanthropic work, at one
time was employed by the Center for American Progress.

Obama was elected the 44th President of the USA and its first
black leader, there is anticipation of a seismic foreign
policy shift and nations around the globe are wondering what
an Obama presidency means for them. The US-India relations,
jump-started by the historic March 2000 visit to India by
President Bill Clinton and then carried to dizzying heights
under President George W. Bush, are unlikely to slow down.
Bhutan gets
new king Thimphu, November 6
In an elaborate sacred
ceremony marked with chanting of sacred Buddhist sutras,
religious music and traditional dance, Oxford-educated and
Indian-trained Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck was today
coronated as the fifth king of Bhutan. The 28-year-old Namgyel
Wangchuck was handed over the Raven Crown by his father and
fourth king Jigme Singye Wangchuck at the religious ceremony
to emerge as the youngest reigning monarch of the world’s
youngest democracy.

Punjab failed to act
timely Chandigarh, November 6
The Central team, which visited
Punjab to look into an upsurge in dengue cases, has indicted the state
government for failing to take timely action, which it maintains, could
have drastically checked the number of dengue cases recorded at 3,078
till now.
Army hands over Lt
Col’s case to ATS New Delhi, November 6
The Indian defence authorities
today handed over the jurisdiction of the case of the serving Lt Col
Srikant Purohit to the Mumbai anti-terrorist squad (ATS) even as it is
unlikely that any immediate move will be launched to dismiss him from
service. The handing over the
jurisdiction was formality that had to be completed before the police
could start its on own course.
Honour Killing Teenaged cousins killed for eloping Greater Noida, November 6
Two teenaged cousins, Sonam (14) and Pinky
(17), were allegedly shot dead by their cousin, Sonu (22), in Surajpur today.
They both were daughters of brothers, Om Prakash and Gopichand, respectively.
The victims were allegedly shot at the chest and stomach, the police said. The
matter could be termed as honour-killing as both girls reportedly had an affair
with two boys of the locality with whom they had eloped to Aligarh on November
1.
