killed in Islamabad hotel blast Suicide bomber
rams explosive-laden vehicle into main gate of Marriott At least 60
persons were killed and more than 200 injured in what
was described as the biggest suicide attack that
virtually devastated the entire building of the
capital’s main Marriott Hotel on Saturday. The blast
took place about three hours after President Asif
Zardari delivered his maiden address to the joint
session of Parliament less than a km from the scene of
the explosion.

The state Cabinet today
held an emergent meeting as more than 45 persons have been
killed due to house collapse, landslides and property,
including crops worth crores, being destroyed due to the havoc
wreaked by heavy rains all over the state during the past 24
hours.

claimed to have cracked the case and possibly the terror

cremated with full police honours New Delhi,

Delhi police inspector
Mohan Chand Sharma, who succumbed to his injuries sustained
during an encounter with terrorists yesterday, was cremated
today at Nigambodh Ghat with full police honours. Sharma’s
father Narottam Sharma performed the last rites. Hundreds of
friends, colleagues, family members and general public
attended the cremation ceremony.

Samiti supporters were injured when the police resorted to cane-charge
and fired in the air to disperse them outside Abhinav Theatre on the
Canal Road here, after they tried to forcibly entry the premises.
Trouble started when the management of Abhinav Theatre cancelled the
booking of the Samiti at the eleventh hour. The Samiti was scheduled to
hold a function at the theatre to pay a tribute to those killed in the
two-month-long land row agitation and felicitate their families.
