Dengue scare spreads
Jalandhar, September 16 Moreover, the health authorities have even started accusing the media of exposing chinks in arrangements made to tackle the disease. Sources revealed that one more case of suspected dengue was identified at the Civil Hospital this afternoon. Sonu, who was admitted in the male medical ward almost four days back with fever and body ache, was today tested positive for the IGG while the test report of the IGM was negative. According to Dr T.P. Singh, four cases of strongly suggested dengue had been reported in the city during the past over 10 days. He, however, said in Sonu’s case, dengue was suspected, not confirmed. When asked about the dengue patients in private hospitals, Dr Singh claimed that Rita Thakur, her husband Jatinder Thakur and Ananya Singh, all residents of AIR Staff Colony, and Kulwinder Singh of Bhargo Camp, were strongly suspected cases of dengue. Jatinder Thakur and Kulwinder Singh were currently undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital, he added. A visit to the hospital revealed that four persons, suspected cases of dengue, were still under close observation of doctors in the ICU of the Civil Hospital. As of now, 14 cases of suspected dengue have been registered here. Dr Singh claimed that 25 teams of the health department had been deputed for fogging and a drive had been launched against breeding of tiger mosquitoes. The department had also launched a massive drive to collect blood samples from various dengue-prone areas. Jalandhar civil surgeon S.S. Walia claimed that there was no confirmed case of dengue in the city and its vicinity. When asked if the private hospitals had informed them about the number of suspected dengue cases registered with them, he claimed only two private hospitals had supplied information to the district health authorities. The civil surgeon, however, rued that a majority of private hospitals had not been providing any information regarding dengue cases despite repeated
representations.

In her address, the minister said, with a view to streamline the scheme some changes have been made on experimental basis. “We would monitor it for some days and if found practically viable, the scheme would be extended to all the districts. Though, the chairperson of the Stri Shakti, Maninder Bedi, in her address claimed that they had experience of about 16 years for preparing and supplying mid-day meal in 5 states of the country, the organisation virtually fumbled in ensuring proper delivery of meals on the inaugural day to some schools. Bedi, while attributing the problem to the busy schedule, said, “ We have proper infrastructure and the scheme would be properly implemented henceforth.” DGSE, Krishan Kumar said the whole system would start working smoothly within few days.
