Vacant OBC seats can go to general category students: SC
Legal Correspondent

New Delhi, September 15
The Supreme Court today clarified that vacant OBC seats in educational institutions would go to students from the general category.

Issuing a notice to the Centre for ascertaining the number of seats lying vacant, a five-member Bench headed by Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan fixed the next hearing in the case for September 29.

The court made it clear that no seats should be left vacant while implementing the 27 per cent OBC quota under the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admissions) Act.

The relaxation in the cut-off marks for OBC students, whether 5 per cent or 10 per cent, would be decided by the court after the next hearing.

On April 10, the court had upheld the validity of the OBC quota Act.
