Srinagar, September 12

123: India rebuts Bush assertion
New Delhi, September 12
President George W. Bush’s determination to the US Congress specifiying that fuel supply assurances to India are not legally binding today sparked a major controversy with India asserting that the Indo-US nuclear cooperation would be carried out only on the basis of the respective rights of the two sides as contained in the 123 agreement.

The Pakistan Army has been ordered to retaliate against any action by foreign troops inside the country, army spokesman Major General Athar Abbas said on Friday. General Abbas' statement came as top brass of the Pakistan Army in their meeting on second day fully endorsed their chief's warning that no country would be allowed to violate Pakistan's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The sword of custodial interrogation continues to hang over the head of Capt Amarinder Singh. As the former chief minister’s petition challenging Vidhan Sabha’s resolution to expel him for the remaining term, and subsequent developments, came up for hearing before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, his counsel tried to shield him from custodial interrogation by insisting that the House had overstepped its jurisdiction by issuing punitive directions.
