Govt not keeping its word, say farmers
Bathinda, September 3 In their letter, the landless peasants have appealed that the matter should be raised in the monsoon session of the assembly, slated to commence from September 4. The police registered a criminal case against them and they sat on night-long dharna in protest at the same place. A number of senior officials including the DC and SSP, Muktsar, held talks with them throughout the night. A compromise was reached when the then DC Muktsar, Vikas Garg, condemned the incident and gave in writing an assurance about the acceptance of their demands. In the letter, they listed their demands like compensation to the protesters who were injured due to the firing of rubber bullets within 15 days of their medical report, cancellation of FIR lodged against the protesters, proper action against the DSP Muktsar, Baljeet Singh Sidhu, and SHO, Sadar police station, Muktsar, Rajan Parminder Singh, who alleged used derogatory language against people belonging to the reserved categories, and lamented that despite assurances given, they had not been fulfilled. Teachers firm on staging Mohali protest
Bathinda, September 3 The union informed in a press release that the protest is in regard to their long pending demands of restoration of pension benefits, removal of ban from posts, enhanced medical allowance, interim relief of the pay commission, enhanced HRA for five government aided schools which come under the jurisdiction of the Bathinda Municipal Corporation (BMC) and regular release of grants. Union secretary Shri Kant Sharma said that the Akali Dal, in its election manifesto, had said that the demands would be met. The manifesto clearly stated that all the facilities of employees of such institutions, that had been "snatched" away by the previous Congress regime, would be met. The union lamented that the promise had not yet been met. Reminding the SAD-BJP coalition, the union said that government aided employees, particularly in Malwa and Doaba areas had helped
the parties in returning to power. The employees have now decided to wield black flags and black clothes to mark their protest on Teachers' Day. On that day, all employees will go on mass casual leave to attend the protest at Mohali. All government aided schools will remain closed on that day, the release pointed out. |

Moga MC polls Kulwinder Sandhu Tribune News Service
Moga, September 3 The Congress MLAs, Joginder Pal Jain and Darshan Brar, along with their supporters, gathered on the spot in his favour and carried out a protest march raising slogans against the state government. The shopkeepers of 'kabari' bazaar, where the candidate's shop is located, closed their establishments in protest and blocked the main road for more than three hours. As per the details available, a scooter theft case was recently registered by the local police against Rakesh Kumar, who filed his nomination papers from ward number 8 of the town. The police, allegedly under the pressure of the ruling party, raided his shop to recover the vehicle and arrest him but he managed to flee from the shop. The raiding party, however, allegedly took away his brother and a nephew to the police station so as to exert pressure on Kumar to surrender. As soon as the report of police raid spread in the town, the local people, including the Congress MLAs and their supporters, gathered at the 'kabari' bazaar and protested against the police action by raising slogans against the state government. The Congress MLAs alleged that the police had reacted at the behest of the ruling parties after Rakesh Kumar filed his nomination papers. “Why was the police sleeping for many days after registering the case,” MLA Darshan Brar asked. On the other hand, the local DSP, Bhulla Singh, who himself arrived on the spot immediately, informed The Tribune that the police wanted to check the shop of the candidate as there were reports that some shopkeepers in the 'kabari' bazaar buy stolen vehicles. “More than 20 such cases of theft have been registered by the local police in the recent past that requires thorough investigation,” he said. The DSP added that the local leaders of the Congress were unnecessarily trying to rake up this issue at the time of elections. He said that it was a routine investigation by the police to solve thefts cases. Meanwhile, the situation was under control when the news report was last filed, the DSP claimed. The protesters had started dispersing from the spot. |
