US, France lobby for clean waiver at NSG

With the nuclear suppliers’ group slated to meet on August 21, the US and France have launched a no-holds-barred campaign with the NSG member countries to secure a ‘clean exemption’ for India to enable it to undertake nuclear commerce with the international community.

Japan today asserted that there was no change in its position that New
Delhi must sign the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and the
comprehensive test ban treaty even as it gave clear indications that it
would support India’s case for a clean waiver at a meeting of the

Tribunal lifts ban on SIMI
New Delhi, August 5
A specially-designated tribunal today lifted the ban imposed by the Centre on the activities of the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).
Justice Geeta Mittal of the Delhi High Court, who headed the tribunal, held that there was no new evidence submitted by the government against the SIMI to justify the extension of the ban, a top law officer said.
